Is a Container House Cold in Winter?
Admin September 17, 2026
Whether a container house is cold in winter depends on the thickness of its wall panels, insulation measures, and heating equipment configuration, with significant differences under different conditions. Here is a detailed analysis:

I. Mild Cold Range (0β to 5β)
- 50mm Wall Panel Container: After closing doors and windows, the indoor temperature can be maintained between 5β and 10β. It feels cool but not significantly cold, and an electric heater can meet temporary living needs.
- 75mm Wall Panel Container: The indoor temperature remains stable between 10β and 13β. No additional heating is required for short stays, making it suitable for short-term use.
- 150mm Wall Panel Container: Relying solely on sunlight and body heat, the indoor temperature can be maintained above 15β. It has excellent insulation performance and is suitable for long-term residence.
II. Severe Cold Range (-5β to -10β)
- 50mm Wall Panel Container: The indoor temperature can only be maintained between 0β and -2β. Condensation forms on the inner side of the walls, and air leaks through door and window gaps are noticeable. Water pipes are prone to freezing at night, making it only suitable for short-term storage of goods and not recommended for human habitation.
- 75mm Wall Panel Container: With thermal break aluminum double-glazed windows and sealing strips, the indoor temperature can be stabilized between 8β and 12β. After installing a small air conditioner or floor heating, it can reach a comfortable living standard of 18β.
- 150mm Wall Panel Container: Without additional heating, the indoor temperature can still be maintained above 12β. After turning on the heating equipment, the room temperature can easily rise to between 20β and 22β. It has excellent insulation and heating effects.
III. Extreme Cold Range (-20β to -30β)
- 50mm Wall Panel Container: It is completely unsuitable for living, with indoor temperatures dropping below freezing. The metal container may even become brittle, posing safety risks.
- 75mm Wall Panel Container: It relies on high-power floor heating (with a power of no less than 80W/γ‘) and full-house sealing renovations to maintain an indoor temperature above 10β. The renovation cost is relatively high.
- 150mm Wall Panel Container: With a floor heating system and a fresh air dehumidification device, the indoor temperature can be stabilized between 18β and 20β. However, the equipment investment and operating costs significantly increase.
IV. Renovation Suggestions for Ordinary Standard Containers
Common ordinary standard containers on the market have thin iron sheet structures and poor insulation performance. Direct use in winter will result in very low indoor temperatures. The following measures can be taken to improve the situation:
- Add Insulation Layers: Fill the interior of the container with insulation rock wool or polystyrene boards to enhance the wall's thermal insulation performance.
- Replace Doors and Windows: Use double-glazed windows to reduce heat loss.
- Install Heating Equipment: Choose air conditioners, radiators, or floor heating according to climatic conditions to ensure the indoor temperature meets standards.
