Iran Container Renovated Housing

Admin September 15, 2026

Currently, there are no typical case reports specifically targeting container-renovated housing in Iran. However, there are numerous successful practices of container-renovated housing globally, including in China, and their concepts and technologies may provide references for relevant renovations in Iran.

Residential Renovation

  • Space Expansion and Functional Integration: There are several cases of renovating containers into residential housing. For example, a couple spent six years transforming two old, 30-square-meter containers into a fully functional home that can accommodate seven people. One of the containers has its side expanded into a hydraulic deck via an electric hydraulic system, increasing the activity space. Indoor furniture can be stored in the walls, and lowering the bed board creates an additional double bed. There is also a 15-square-meter container home where the living room tables and chairs are foldable, and the background wall combines closed and open storage. The bedroom bed is foldable, serving as a sofa during the day and a bed at night, with cabinets installed on the adjacent and top walls for additional storage.
  • Energy and Lighting Design: Some renovations focus on energy utilization and lighting. For instance, a 15-square-meter container home deep in the forest has its roof corners connected by lifting rods to ensure light and ventilation, with solar panels installed on the top to solve electricity problems. Large glass windows make the interior bright and warm, and the terrace is an ideal place for relaxation.

Commercial and Public Building Renovation

  • Modular Building Applications: China has achieved remarkable results in modular construction. The 'containers' at Dongguan Humen Port contain complete living units, with walls, floors, ceilings, pipelines, and even bathrooms fully equipped at the factory, ready to be transported to construction sites and assembled into schools, hospitals, hotels, and residential buildings. In the first quarter of 2026, China's export growth rate of prefabricated buildings (including modular buildings) reached as high as 45%, with products shipped to more than 150 countries and regions.
  • Specific Venue Renovation: There are cases abroad of renovating containers into mountain resorts. These resorts are composed of six containers, built on mountains according to the terrain, with courtyards formed between two blocks. The rooms have large floor-to-ceiling windows, with interior decorations similar to residential buildings, and the roofs are reshaped.
