Integrated Prefabricated Housing
Integrated prefabricated housing is a form of construction that involves the industrial production of building components and their assembly on-site. Modular construction represents a more highly integrated model within this approach, offering advantages such as shorter construction periods, controllable quality, energy conservation, environmental protection, and ease of maintenance.

In integrated prefabricated housing, modular construction breaks down buildings into independent modules. These modules are manufactured in factories, including ceilings, floors, and plumbing and electrical systems, and then transported to the site for assembly. This model offers significant advantages:
- Short construction period: Compared to traditional construction, modular construction can significantly reduce construction periods by over 60%. For example, in a public housing project in Shenzhen, Guangdong, the completion and delivery time was reduced from the original 2.5 to 3 years to just 1 year, greatly improving construction efficiency and meeting people's housing needs more quickly.
- Controllable quality: During factory production, the position of each steel bar is precisely located, with errors and precision controlled in millimeters to ensure high-quality building components. Moreover, each 'building block' has a detailed 'ID card' containing information such as the project name, product model, and production date, facilitating quality traceability and management, and ensuring the quality of the entire construction project.
- Energy conservation and environmental protection: Factories employ parallel operations, combined with automated vertical warehouses and intelligent production lines, and complete most construction processes in the factory, with only on-site casting connections required. This approach significantly reduces noise, dust, construction waste, and traffic congestion at construction sites. For example, in Fujian Province and other regions, policy support has been provided to establish industrial bases, achieving a reduction in construction waste of over 70%, playing a positive role in environmental protection.
- Ease of maintenance: Modular buildings are flexible in terms of maintenance. When a module has a problem, it can be easily replaced or repaired. At the same time, their application scenarios continue to expand, meeting the construction needs of different fields and scenarios.
China's prefabricated concrete technology originated in the 1950s and was initially applied to factory and residential construction. In the 21st century, it has experienced a resurgence due to its production efficiency and environmental advantages. Companies such as Vanke Group have developed prefabricated shear wall residential structural systems and applied prefabricated frame technology in engineering projects. Currently, Chinese-made prefabricated houses are selling well overseas. According to customs data, in the first four months of 2026, the Guangzhou Customs District exported movable houses worth 1.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38.1%.
