Installation of Electromagnetic Locks on Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The installation of electromagnetic locks on container houses requires combining the general installation principles of electromagnetic locks with the characteristics of container doors for adaptation. The key steps are as follows:

1. Determine the Installation Position

  1. Height: Position it 15-20 cm from the top edge of the door (a general standard for wooden/metal doors). Avoid weak areas of the container door frame, such as welds, joints, or areas with a high density of rivets, to prevent the lock body from loosening due to insufficient structural strength.
  2. Horizontal Position: Install it in the center for single doors. If the door width exceeds 1.2 meters, it is recommended to install electromagnetic locks symmetrically on both sides to enhance stability by distributing the force and avoid deformation of the single-sided lock body due to long-term weight bearing.
  3. Parallel Fit: The gap between the lock body and the suction plate should be ≤0.5 mm, which can be achieved by adjusting the position of the bracket or the relay plate. There should be no jamming when closing the door, and the lock body and the suction plate should not shake after suction. Otherwise, insufficient suction may occur due to poor contact.

2. Select the Appropriate Installation Method

  1. Surface Installation: Suitable for metal container doors, requiring the use of Z&L brackets, relay plates, and other accessories. The steps are: fix the bracket to the door frame → install the lock body → adjust the position of the relay plate and tighten it to ensure alignment between the lock body and the suction plate.
  2. Embedded Installation: If the door is made of wood or aluminum alloy, a groove can be cut to embed the lock body. However, note that the size of the door stop should be larger than that of the lock body to prevent the lock body from protruding and affecting the door's sealing when closed.

3. Special Treatment for Metal Doors

  1. Insulation Treatment: Since container doors are mostly made of metal, an insulating gasket (such as a rubber or plastic sheet) should be placed between the lock body and the door frame to prevent short circuits caused by direct contact between the lock body and the metal door frame, which could damage the access control system.
  2. Opening Direction Adaptation: Confirm whether the door opens inward or outward. For inward-opening doors, the lock body should be installed on the door frame side; for outward-opening doors, it should be installed on the door leaf side to avoid the lock body failing to suction properly due to incorrect installation position.

4. Power Supply and Wiring Specifications

  1. Power Supply Selection: Electromagnetic locks usually use DC12V low-voltage direct current and require a dedicated power adapter. Avoid using alternating current to prevent damage to the lock body.
  2. Wiring Requirements: The power cord should be laid separately from high-voltage power lines (such as lighting and power lines). When crossing, maintain a spacing of more than 30 cm and wrap it with a metal tube or shielding layer to prevent electromagnetic interference from causing false operations of the lock body.
  3. Maintenance Space: When wiring, reserve at least 10 cm of maintenance space for easy later maintenance or line replacement.

5. Debugging and Acceptance

  1. Function Test: After installation, power on to check whether the lock body and the suction plate are completely parallel and fit. Test the power-on suction (the suction force should be ≥300 kg) and power-off release functions to ensure sensitive and delay-free operation.
  2. Durability Test: Open and close the door more than 10 times repeatedly to confirm there is no abnormal noise, no deformation or scratches on the door frame, and no loosening of the lock body and the suction plate.

Tip: If the container door is made of non-standard materials (such as high-strength alloys or composite materials), it is recommended to contact the electromagnetic lock manufacturer for a customized installation plan to avoid installation failures or safety hazards due to material characteristics.
