How to Replace the Lock Cylinder of a Container House
The following steps can be followed to replace the lock cylinder of a container house:

I. Preparation and Safety Confirmation Understand the basic structure of the container corner lock (twist lock): By rotating the lock cylinder (handle) 90 degrees, the lock tongue engages with or disengages from the container corner fittings to achieve locking and releasing. The lock base is usually welded to the vehicle body or chassis. Before operation, ensure work safety by parking the vehicle steadily and applying the brakes. Ensure the container is in a stable, unloaded state and avoid operating during loading and unloading operations. Also, prepare basic tools, including Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers, hex wrenches, and needle-nose pliers.
II. Confirm the Lock Cylinder Type and Size Check the side markings of the lock body or measure the length of the lock cylinder (usually 30-60 millimeters). Common brands such as Yingqi and TRAILAR have compatible models. When purchasing, inform the seller of the container model to avoid errors and ensure the new lock cylinder matches the original one.
III. Diagnose and Remove the Old Lock Cylinder
- Fault Confirmation: Check if the lock cylinder is stuck, difficult to rotate, if the key cannot be inserted or rotated smoothly, or if the key is broken inside the lock cylinder.
- Removal Steps:
- After opening the lock body with the key, find the fixing screw or clip (usually an internal hex structure) at the end of the lock cylinder. Loosen it and slowly pull out the old lock cylinder.
- If the lock cylinder is rusted and stuck, drip a small amount of WD-40 lubricant to help loosen it.
- If the fixing screw is located at the top or bottom of the lock body, first remove the protective cap or decorative panel, then use the appropriate tool to unscrew the screw and carefully remove the old lock cylinder.
IV. Purchase and Install the New Lock Cylinder
- Purchase Points:
- Ensure that the size (total length, diameter), type (such as flat-type, triangular-type) and fixing screw hole position of the new lock cylinder completely match the original one.
- You can bring the old lock cylinder as a sample for purchase or accurately measure the model parameters.
- If high anti-theft performance is required, choose a C-grade blade free-spinning lock cylinder (anti-technical opening ≥ 480 minutes), whose double-row pin and serpentine groove structure is superior to traditional AB-grade ones. If frequently passing through high-theft-risk areas, upgrade to a smart lock cylinder with GPS positioning function, and some products support mobile phone alarm functions.
- Installation Steps:
- Place the new lock cylinder in the reserved hole of the lock body in the correct direction. The initial orientation should correspond to the unlocked state.
- Screw back the fixing screw, install the protective cap or panel, and tighten the screw with moderate force to avoid slipping.
- You can also align the new lock cylinder with the lock body slot and push it in all the way, then tighten the fixing screw with the original force (over-tightening may damage the threads).
V. Post-Installation Testing and Function Verification Insert the key and test if the rotation is smooth and without jamming. Observe if the lock tongue extends and retracts normally with the rotation of the key, and complete a cycle of locking and unlocking actions. Repeat the test multiple times to ensure full functional recovery and reliability.
