How to Make Mini Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

You can choose the following methods to make mini prefabricated houses based on different materials and complexity levels:

I. Making with Three Pieces of Cardboard

  1. Building the Basic Structure: Cut the cardboard into appropriate sizes and construct the main frame of the house by folding or joining. You can elevate certain areas to create a split-level structure. For example, use upright cardboard as support columns and fix the upper platform on the columns to form a second floor.
  2. Functional Zoning and Details: Use white paper to distinguish different functional areas (such as bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms). In the bathroom area, attach models of bathtubs and sinks (which can be folded or cut from small pieces of paper). In the kitchen area, make cabinets and place model tableware. In the bedroom area, attach floor texture paper, place miniature furniture such as tables, stools, and sofas, and install table lamps and small bed models.
  3. Stair Construction: Cut the cardboard into step shapes and paste them layer by layer to form stairs connecting the upper and lower floors.

II. Making with Cardboard (Complex Version)

  1. Walls and Doors/Windows: Draw the outline of the house walls on the cardboard and cut out the wall structure with a utility knife, reserving spaces for doors and windows and precisely cutting out hollow areas. The edges of doors and windows can be sanded smooth to avoid burrs.
  2. Roof Construction: Roll irregular cardboard into an arched roof or cut trapezoidal cardboard and piece it together to form a sloped roof. The roof surface can be cut into tile shapes from small pieces of cardboard and pasted one by one to create texture. If making a conical roof, cut a circular piece of cardboard into a fan shape and roll it into a cone and secure it.
  3. Assembly and Decoration: Assemble the wall components into the main structure and attach cardboard cylinders at the side openings as chimneys or vents. When making stairs, fold the cardboard into steps. For exterior wall decoration, attach brick-patterned paper or draw brick lines with a marker. Doors and windows can be attached with transparent plastic sheets to simulate glass or use thin wires to make window frames.

III. Making with One A4 Paper (Simple Version)

  1. Basic Cutting: Fold the A4 paper in half and cut it into two halves. Take one of the halves, fold it in half again, and divide it into three equal parts along the fold lines. Unfold it to get six square areas.
  2. Forming the Structure: Cut off two adjacent squares. Fold the remaining part in half and then unfold it. Cut out triangles along the fold lines (subsequent steps need to be adjusted according to the design, such as forming a roof or walls by folding). This method is suitable for making minimalist-style small house models, and the height and slope of the house can be controlled by the folding angle.

Precautions:

  • Keep the cutting edges neat during the production process. When using glue or double-sided tape to fix components, avoid excessive overflow.
  • For complex models, it is recommended to draw a design drawing first, mark the sizes and positions of each component, and then cut and assemble step by step.
  • In the decoration stage, you can use your creativity to add details with colored pens, stickers, or fabric, but ensure that the materials are lightweight to maintain the structural stability.
