How to Make a Portable Toilet
Admin September 21, 2026
A portable toilet can be made using a water storage tank or water storage drum along with a pallet, through steps such as cutting, assembling, and installing components.

Making with a Water Storage Tank
- Tank Body Processing: Use an angle grinder to split the water storage tank in half lengthwise, providing a foundation for subsequent assembly.
- Installing the Mobile Device: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to enable the entire structure to move easily, meeting the flexibility requirements of a portable toilet.
- Adjusting Height and Opening: Use wooden strips and self-tapping screws to increase the height of the tank to accommodate human use, and cut an opening on the side for easy access.
- Building the Walls: Install sponge strips to form a door frame and embed plastic soft panels to create walls, providing some privacy and shelter.
- Setting Up the Roof: Place the upper half of the water storage tank on top of the wooden strips as a roof and apply waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics and prevent rainwater leakage.
- Installing Drainage and Water Storage Devices: Cut a hole at the bottom of the tank to install a drainage pipe, and cut a hole on the side to connect an interface. Place a plastic bucket to form a water storage device for collecting and storing wastewater.
- Installing Sanitary Facilities: Install a bath heater, toilet, and water tank made from water pipes, and connect the drainage pipe to the sewage bucket to achieve basic sanitary functions.
Making with a Water Storage Drum and Pallet
- Installing Mobile Components: Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a pallet to ensure the portable toilet can move freely.
- Processing the Water Storage Drum: Place the water storage drum and use an angle grinder to cut along the top marked line to remove the top, forming an open drum body to provide space for subsequent installation of facilities.
- Assembling the Drum Body: Invert another top-open water storage drum and stack it on the first drum body, securing the outer frame with self-tapping screws to enhance structural stability.
- Cutting an Opening: Cut rectangular openings on the outer frame and drum body of the water storage drum as doorways for easy access.
- Installing the Drainage System: Cut a hole in the internal floor, insert an elbow and a water pipe, seal the gaps, and then cut off the excess water pipe to provide a drainage channel for facilities such as the toilet.
- Installing Sanitary Facilities: Install the toilet and secure it with glue, fix the water pipes and faucets, and install a handwashing basin made from a stainless steel basin to meet basic washing needs.
- Completing Facility Connections: Connect the water inlet pipe of the toilet tank and the shower hose, install a spray-type showerhead and a toilet seat to enhance comfort during use.
- Installing the Door: Fix hinges on the frame of the water storage drum, connect wooden boards to form a door, and install a door handle to protect the privacy of users.
