How to Install Lights in Prefabricated Panel Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

When installing lights in prefabricated panel houses, you can refer to the following methods, selecting the appropriate one based on the type and weight of the light fixture:

I. Non-Drilling Installation Methods

Due to the structural characteristics of prefabricated floor slabs, it is not recommended to directly drill holes for installing light fixtures. Instead, you can choose ceiling-mounted or adhesive-type light fixtures. Ceiling-mounted light fixtures are fixed to the ceiling using suction cups, while adhesive-type light fixtures are attached using strong adhesive. Both methods do not require damaging the floor slab structure and can effectively avoid structural safety hazards caused by drilling. These methods are suitable for ordinary lighting fixtures, such as LED ceiling lights and small spotlights, but ensure that the adhesive surface is flat and clean to guarantee a secure attachment.

II. Installation Using Existing Structures

If the prefabricated floor slab has pre-installed structures such as suspended ceilings or hanging rods, you can utilize these support points for installing light fixtures. For example, you can use specialized installation kits for chandeliers or ceiling fans to fix the fixtures to the hanging rods or fixed points of the suspended ceiling. This method requires confirming the load-bearing capacity of the existing structures in advance to ensure they can support the weight of the light fixtures and avoid structural deformation or detachment due to overloading.

III. Installation Methods for Heavy Objects (e.g., Ceiling Fans with Lights)

  1. Through-Hole Installation: You need to drill a hole at the installation location using an electric drill, pass a specialized hanger through the floor slab, and install the hanger on the upper part of the floor slab. This method requires the consent of the upstairs residents as it involves working on the upstairs floor. A qualified tension plate must be installed at the back of the hanger to ensure the stability of the hanging rod. It is recommended to use a finished specialized ceiling fan installation rod, which comes with a built-in hanger on the back and is more suitable for installing ceiling fans with lights.
  2. Fixed-Point Installation: Select the joint between prefabricated panels (usually without holes) as the installation point. The dimensions of this location generally meet the requirements for ceiling fan hangers. Use a four-bolt hanger, drill four holes at the joint as required, and fix the base plate with bolts. After installation, test the load-bearing capacity of the hanger to ensure it can withstand the weight of the ceiling fan with lights and the shear force and vibration during operation.

IV. Installation Precautions

  1. Safety First: You must turn off the power supply before installation and follow electrical safety regulations to prevent electric shock.
  2. Light Fixture Weight: When selecting a light fixture, consider the load-bearing capacity of the floor slab and avoid using overly heavy light fixtures to prevent increasing the pressure on the floor slab and affecting structural safety.
  3. Secure Fixation: Regardless of the installation method used, ensure that the light fixture is securely fixed to prevent it from falling during use.
  4. Professional Installation: If you are unsure about the installation method, it is recommended to contact a professional electrician for operation to ensure safety and stability.
