How to Install an Air Conditioner in a Container House
Admin September 15, 2026
When installing an air conditioner in a container house, it is necessary to select the appropriate type according to the usage scenario and complete the installation process and handle details in a standardized manner. Details are as follows:

Air Conditioner Type Selection
There are mainly three types of container air conditioners, and the choice should be made according to the actual usage situation:
- Container Suspended Air Conditioner: Suitable for containers used in mobile loading and unloading operations, such as scenarios involving frequent handling or temporary use. It has high installation flexibility and can be adjusted in position as the container moves.
- Vehicle-mounted Container Air Conditioner: Designed specifically for containers used in long-distance transportation. It needs to meet the stability requirements during vehicle operation and usually has features such as shock resistance and energy efficiency, making it suitable for logistics and transportation scenarios.
- Container Wall-mounted Air Conditioner: Suitable for containers in fixed locations, such as warehouses and construction site offices. The installation method is similar to that of ordinary wall-mounted air conditioners, but the load-bearing capacity and airtightness of the container structure need to be considered.
Installation Process Specifications
- Determine the Installation Position:
- The indoor unit should avoid obstacles to ensure uniform air supply and reserve maintenance space (e.g., at least 1 meter in front and 0.5 meters on the sides).
- The outdoor unit should be installed in a well-ventilated location away from heat sources, avoid direct sunlight, and ensure smooth drainage. For top-mounted units, confirm the load-bearing capacity of the cabinet top and add supports if necessary.
- Drilling and Sealing:
- Drill holes in the container according to the air outlet size of the air conditioner (e.g., for top-mounted units, drill cold air outlet holes and return air inlet holes with a diameter of about 100 - 150mm), and the deviation should be controlled within 5mm.
- After drilling, fill the gaps with sealing strips or putty to prevent cold air leakage. Unsealed gaps may lead to a 20% - 35% decrease in cooling efficiency.
- Pipe and Wire Connection:
- After fixing the indoor and outdoor units, connect the refrigerant pipes and drainage pipes. The pipes should be wrapped with insulation materials to reduce cold loss.
- The power cord should be configured separately, and the grounding must be reliable to avoid the risk of electric leakage. High-power models (e.g., those above 3kW) should be directly connected to circuit breakers to prevent overloading.
Detail Handling and Maintenance
- Drainage Issues: For indoor installation, confirm the direction of the drainage pipe, which can be connected to a floor drain or a bucket. For outdoor installation, it is advisable to choose a condensed water evaporation model to save the trouble of drainage.
- Heat Dissipation Space: For top-mounted units, there should be at least 30cm of space between the cabinet top and the ceiling. For side-mounted units, ensure that the sides are unobstructed.
- Regular Maintenance: Cleaning dust and replacing filters can improve air quality, reduce energy consumption, and extend the service life of the equipment.
