How to Handle the Bottom of Container Houses
Admin September 16, 2026
The treatment of the bottom of container houses requires a combination of foundation treatment, cushion selection, and construction specifications. The specific steps are as follows:

I. Foundation Treatment
The foundation is the basis for the stability of container houses and needs to be selected according to site conditions and construction requirements:
- Reinforced Concrete Leveling Layer: Suitable for flat sites. First, pour a reinforced concrete layer on the ground and level it, then hoist the container onto the leveling layer for fixation. This method is simple in construction, but it is necessary to ensure sufficient ground bearing capacity.
- Pile Foundation: Fix the building modules by driving piles (such as steel pipe piles or concrete piles) into the ground. This is suitable for scenarios with soft geology or seismic resistance requirements. The depth of the piles needs to be determined according to the geological report to ensure that the bearing capacity of a single pile meets the requirements.
- Plain Soil Compacted Foundation: After leveling the site, remove weeds and debris, backfill plain soil in layers and compact it (each layer has a thickness of ≤300mm and a compaction coefficient of ≥0.94). This method has low cost but is only suitable for light buildings or temporary structures.
II. Cushion Selection
The cushion needs to be selected comprehensively according to the building type, environmental conditions, and cost:
- Concrete Strip Foundation: Pour a continuous strip foundation along the long side of the container. The width is usually 300-500mm, and the depth is determined according to the thickness of the permafrost layer. This solution offers the best stability and is suitable for permanent buildings.
- Prefabricated Concrete Blocks (Footings): Use prefabricated concrete piers as support points, and adjust the spacing according to the position of the container corner fittings. This is suitable for temporary sites or scenarios requiring quick disassembly and assembly, but regular inspection of settlement is required.
- Steel Structure Beams: Use I-beams or channel steels as overhead supports, leaving a ventilation space at the bottom (height ≥ 200mm), which can effectively prevent moisture. This is suitable for areas with damp ground or where underground pipelines need to be protected.
III. Construction Precautions
- Site Cleaning and Compaction: Before laying the cushion, remove debris and compact the soil to avoid later settlement.
- Level Calibration: Use a level to check the flatness of the top surface of the foundation. The error should be controlled within ≤2-3mm per meter to prevent deformation of the container.
- Drainage Design: The surface of the foundation should be set with a drainage slope of 1%-2% to ensure rapid drainage of rainwater and avoid corrosion caused by water accumulation at the bottom of the container.
- Corrosion and Moisture Prevention: Metal cushions need to be painted with anti-rust paint; in humid environments, install rubber shock-absorbing pads or waterproof membranes between the bottom frame of the container and the cushion to extend the service life.
Through scientific foundation treatment, reasonable cushion selection, and strict construction specifications, the stability and durability of the bottom of container houses can be ensured.
