How to Handle Electricity for Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The electricity for container houses must be applied for through formal channels from the local power supply enterprise. Unauthorized connections are strictly prohibited. The specific process and precautions are as follows:

I. Electricity Application Process

  1. Understand Policies and Requirements
Before applying, clarify the local power department's policies on electricity usage, including application conditions, required materials, and processing time. Confirm whether the purpose of the container house falls under agricultural electricity or residential electricity categories to prepare the corresponding materials. For example, agricultural facility electricity usage requires relevant project certification documents.

  2. Prepare Application Materials

    • Identity Proof: Natural persons need to provide their ID cards and household registration books; legal persons or unincorporated organizations need to provide business licenses and organization codes.
    • Land and Housing Proof: This includes land lease contracts, temporary construction permits, real estate property certificates, or site lease contracts. If entrusting someone else to handle the application, an authorization letter and the agent's identity proof are required.
    • Electricity Demand Description: Clearly specify the electricity consumption, duration, equipment capacity, etc., and write an electricity application letter signed by the applicant.
  3. Submit Application and Await Review
Materials can be submitted offline (at power supply business halls) or online (via official websites, mobile apps, or government service websites). After reviewing the materials, the power company may arrange an on-site inspection to determine the power supply plan.

  4. Sign Contract and Connect Electricity for Use
After approval, sign a power supply contract or a "Temporary Electricity Agreement" to clarify the nature of electricity usage, duration, electricity pricing method, and safety responsibilities. The power company will install an electricity meter and connect the power for use. The electricity meter and wiring must be installed by professionals. The duration of temporary electricity usage generally does not exceed six months, and an extension or formalization procedure is required upon expiration.

II. Electricity Safety Precautions

  1. Distribution Box Installation
    • Ordinary lighting distribution boxes can be directly fixed to the container wall; power distribution boxes require insulation pads and must ensure the box body is directly connected to the ground wire.
  2. Wire Installation
Since containers are made of color-coated steel, wires must be encased in insulation tubes to prevent electric shock.
  3. Electricity Safety Reminders
Post notices inside the house prohibiting the use of high-load electrical appliances or heating equipment to avoid overloading and causing fires.

III. Electricity Bill Payment Methods

Electricity bills are usually settled based on electricity meter readings and collected monthly or periodically by the power supply company. If the container is connected to the main electricity meter of a park or construction site, electricity bills must be paid to the site management.
