How to Disinfect Mobile Toilets
Admin September 21, 2026
The disinfection of mobile toilets can be achieved through physical and chemical methods, with specific operations as follows:

I. Physical Disinfection Methods
High-Temperature Disinfection
- Surface Disinfection: Use high-temperature steam (temperature ≥ 100°C) generated by a steam generator to spray on surfaces such as toilets and sinks for 5-10 minutes, effectively killing bacteria and viruses.
- Fecal Treatment: If conditions permit, treat feces with high-temperature steam, ensuring the temperature reaches above 80°C and is maintained for more than 30 minutes to completely inactivate pathogens.
Ultraviolet Disinfection
- Space Disinfection: During periods when the toilet is not in use, turn on the ultraviolet disinfection lamp (wavelength 254nm) installed inside the mobile toilet for at least 30 minutes to achieve sterilization by destroying the DNA structure of microorganisms.
- Equipment Surface Disinfection: Use ultraviolet equipment to irradiate treated feces and equipment surfaces for the same duration, ensuring no obstructions affect ultraviolet penetration.
II. Chemical Disinfection Methods
Chlorine-Containing Disinfectants
- Surface Spraying: Dilute 84 disinfectant at a ratio of 1:200 and use a sprayer to thoroughly spray floors, walls, toilets, etc. Allow it to act for 30 minutes before wiping off residues with clean water.
- Fecal Treatment: Dilute bleach to a ratio of 1:100-1:200 and spray on feces, allowing it to act for 30 minutes to 1 hour; prepare sodium hypochlorite with an effective chlorine content of 500-1000mg/L and spray, maintaining for 30 minutes.
Peracetic Acid
- Wiping/Spraying: Dilute to a concentration of 0.2%-0.5% and use for wiping high-frequency contact areas such as door handles and faucets, or spray inside the toilet, ventilating after 15-30 minutes.
- Fecal Treatment: Use a 0.5%-1% concentration solution to spray on feces, wearing a gas mask and rubber gloves, and rinse equipment with clean water after application.
Alcohol Disinfection
- Local Wiping: For small areas such as door handles and flush buttons, wipe with 75% alcohol cotton pads or gauze, disinfecting 3-4 times daily.
Chlorine Dioxide
- Fecal Disinfection: Prepare a solution with 5-10mg of chlorine dioxide per cubic meter of water, spray on feces, and maintain for 30 minutes. Prepare fresh solutions and avoid mixing with alkaline substances.
III. Precautions
- Safety Protection: Ensure no one is inside the toilet during disinfection. Staff should wear protective clothing, gloves, masks, and goggles to avoid direct contact with disinfectants or contaminants.
- Ventilation: Open windows for ventilation for more than 30 minutes after disinfection to reduce the concentration of residual disinfectants.
- Regular Cleaning: Disinfect thoroughly at least once daily, increasing frequency when contamination is severe, and cooperate with mechanical cleaning to remove dirt.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly check the lifespan of ultraviolet lamp tubes (usually ≤ 1000 hours) and the performance of steam generators to ensure disinfection effectiveness.
