How to Build a Mobile Toilet
Admin September 21, 2026
You can refer to the following two common methods for building a mobile toilet, with specific steps and key points outlined below:

1. Building a Portable Toilet Using a Water Storage Drum
Basic Frame Construction
- Split the water storage drum vertically in half to create two semi-drum structures. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to ensure mobility.
- Secure wooden strips and self-tapping screws to the upper side of the drum to increase the structure's height (usually to a comfortable standing height for adults). Cut an opening on the side and install a sponge strip to create a sealed door frame and prevent odor diffusion.
Wall and Roof Installation
- Insert plastic soft panels as wall materials, ensuring the seams are sealed. Invert the upper half of the water storage drum to serve as the roof, and apply waterproof paint to the surface to enhance aesthetics and extend service life.
- Seal the connection between the roof and walls with waterproof glue to prevent rainwater leakage.
Drainage and Water Storage System
- Drill a hole at the bottom of the drum to install a drainage pipe, forming a floor drain structure, and connect it to a side sewage outlet. Drill another hole on the side and attach a plastic drum as a water storage device for collecting sewage.
- Design the drainage pipe with a slope to ensure sewage flows naturally into the storage drum and prevent blockages.
Sanitary Facility Installation
- Install a simple bathroom heater made from water pipes (requiring a power connection), a three-way valve, and a showerhead to meet basic rinsing needs.
- Place a toilet and secure the water tank, connecting the drainage pipe to the sewage drum. The water tank should be equipped with an inlet valve and an outlet valve to ensure proper flushing function.
2. Building a Portable Toilet Using a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet
Mobile Chassis Construction
- Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a plastic pallet, choosing a model with strong load-bearing capacity to support the entire structure.
- Ensure the surface of the pallet is flat to prevent shaking when installing sanitary facilities.
Water Storage Tank Integration
- Secure the water storage tank in the center of the pallet as the core component for freshwater storage and sewage collection. The water storage tank should be equipped with an inlet, an outlet, and a sewage outlet, and connected to corresponding pipes.
- If a circulating water flushing design is adopted, install a filtration device and a water pump to achieve water reuse.
3. Classification and Selection of Mobile Toilets
- Structural Form: Single-unit structures are suitable for small-scale scenarios (such as outdoor activities), while composite structures are ideal for multiple users (such as temporary toilets on construction sites).
- Mobility Method: Hoisting-type toilets require lifting equipment, manual or small vehicle-dependent transportable toilets, and power-towable toilets need to be connected to a tractor.
- Sewage Treatment Method: Water-flushing toilets require connection to a water source and sewage pipeline, non-water-flushing suction-type toilets require regular cleaning of the sewage storage tank, and circulating water-flushing toilets reduce water consumption through a filtration system.
Precautions: Plan the flatness of the site and water and electricity access conditions before construction; regularly clean the water storage tank and sewage pipeline after use to prevent odors and bacterial growth.
