How to Build a Mobile Toilet

Admin September 21, 2026

There are various ways to build a mobile toilet, and different methods can be chosen according to needs. Here are the specific construction steps and classification descriptions:

I. Building a Mobile Toilet Using a Water Storage Barrel

  1. Basic Structure Construction
    • Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel vertically in the middle, creating two semi-circular barrel bodies.
    • Install universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to serve as a mobile base.
    • Build a frame on the base using wooden strips and self-tapping screws to increase the barrel height (usually raised to a standard height suitable for adults) and reserve a doorway position on the side.
  2. Wall and Roof Installation
    • Fix sponge strips around the edges of the frame to form a door frame and insert plastic soft boards as walls to ensure airtightness.
    • Invert the upper half of the water storage barrel onto the top of the wooden strips as a roof and apply waterproof paint to the surface to enhance durability and aesthetics.
  3. Drainage and Facility Connection
    • Drill holes at the bottom of the barrel to install drainage pipes, forming floor drains; drill holes on the side to connect direct interfaces for sewage discharge.
    • Install facilities such as toilets, water tanks, bathroom heaters, and showerheads, and connect the drainage pipes to external sewage barrels or septic tanks.

II. Building a Mobile Toilet Using a Water Storage Tank and a Pallet

  1. Mobile Pallet Preparation
    • Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a pallet to ensure mobility.
    • Place the water storage tank and use an angle grinder to cut an opening at the top of the tank body for internal installation.
  2. Tank Body Combination and Opening Treatment
    • Stack two water storage tanks with openings at the top on top of each other and fix them with self-tapping screws to form a double-layer structure.
    • Cut rectangular openings on the outer frame and side of the tank body as doorways and ventilation openings.
  3. Internal Facility Installation
    • Drill holes in the internal floor to install drainage elbows and water pipes, fix the toilet and apply sealant to prevent leakage.
    • Install facilities such as faucets, washbasins, toilet water tanks, and showerheads to ensure smooth water connections.
    • Make a door using wooden boards and hinges and install door handles to complete the enclosed structure.

III. Classification of Mobile Toilet Construction Methods

  1. By Structural Form
    • Single-unit Structure: Designed as an independent unit, suitable for single-person or a small number of people, commonly seen in temporary event venues.
    • Composite Structure: Composed of multiple modules, it can be expanded into multiple toilet stalls or add ancillary functions (such as a management room).
  2. By Mobility Method
    • Hoisting and Handling Type: Hoisted as a whole by lifting equipment, suitable for short-term use at fixed locations.
    • Powered and Trailer Type: Equipped with a power system or a trailer device, it can be towed by a vehicle for movement, with high flexibility.
  3. By Sewage Treatment Method
    • Water-flush and Non-water-flush Suction Type: Relies on a water source for flushing, and the sewage is regularly cleaned by a suction truck.
    • Recirculating Water-flush Type: Equipped with a sewage treatment system to achieve water resource recycling, suitable for water-scarce areas.

Precautions: During construction, ensure that the structure is stable, the drainage is smooth, and it complies with local environmental protection and hygiene standards.
