How Many Floors Require Mobile Toilets

Admin October 06, 2026

When the number of floors in a building exceeds 8, a mobile toilet should be installed every 4 floors within the building; regardless of the number of floors, portable toilets and smoking areas should be installed every 3 floors in the building.

According to the relevant requirements of the 'Environmental and Sanitary Standards for Construction Sites' (JGJ146) and the 'Unified Standard for Civil Building Design' (GB50352-2019), there are two different scenarios for the installation of mobile toilets in buildings.

Firstly, portable toilets and smoking areas should be installed every 3 floors in the building. This regulation applies to all buildings, regardless of the number of floors. Its purpose is to ensure the basic physiological needs of the building's occupants, regulate smoking behavior, reduce the impact on non-smokers, and maintain environmental hygiene and public order within the building. By installing portable toilets and smoking areas every 3 floors, these facilities can be reasonably distributed, enabling occupants to find the corresponding facilities within a relatively short distance during their activities in the building, thereby improving convenience of use.

Secondly, when the number of floors in a building exceeds 8, a mobile toilet should be installed every 4 floors within the building. This is a special requirement for high-rise buildings. As the number of floors in a building increases, the number of occupants may also increase relatively, leading to a corresponding increase in demand for toilets. Installing a mobile toilet every 4 floors can meet the occupants' usage needs while avoiding the excessive occupation of building space and resources due to overly dense toilet installations. This installation method takes into account both the convenience of actual use and the efficient utilization of building space.

During the actual building design and construction process, mobile toilets and smoking areas should be installed in strict accordance with these standard requirements to ensure a normal living and working environment for the building's occupants.
