How Long Can Container Houses Be Used?
The service life of container houses typically ranges from 10 to 30 years, with the specific lifespan significantly influenced by materials, maintenance, and environmental conditions.

From a material perspective, the main structure of container houses is usually made of steel, with its thickness and anti-corrosion treatment being crucial. If galvanized steel sheets over 1.2 millimeters thick are used, the steel itself exhibits higher corrosion resistance and structural strength, providing a foundation for long-term use. The galvanized layer effectively isolates the steel from direct contact with the external environment, delaying oxidation reactions and thereby extending the service life.
Maintenance measures are vital for prolonging the lifespan. Regular anti-rust treatment is a core aspect, such as removing rust and repainting the steel surface with anti-rust paint every 2-3 years to prevent rust from spreading. Painting not only enhances corrosion resistance but also improves the durability of the house's appearance, reducing erosion from ultraviolet rays and rainwater. Additionally, regularly inspecting and tightening screws and other connectors can prevent structural deformation or damage caused by looseness, ensuring overall stability of the house.
Environmental conditions are external factors affecting the lifespan. In dry or mild climates, container houses exhibit better durability due to low humidity and salt content, resulting in slower steel corrosion rates. However, in humid or rainy regions, or coastal areas with high salt content, steel is prone to accelerated corrosion due to moisture and salt, necessitating enhanced anti-corrosion measures, such as increasing the thickness of anti-rust coatings, using more corrosion-resistant materials (e.g., stainless steel connectors), or adopting enclosed designs to reduce rainwater infiltration.
The difference between design life and actual life should also be noted. The design life of container houses can reach 25 years or more, but this value is based on continuous maintenance under ideal conditions. Without regular maintenance, even with high-quality materials, the house may prematurely fail due to rust, structural looseness, and other issues. Therefore, regular maintenance is key to ensuring container houses reach their design life.
