Housing Mixed-1 Prefabricated Panel

Admin September 18, 2026

The situation regarding 'housing mixed-1 prefabricated panels' needs to be discussed on a case-by-case basis. The 'mixed-1' structure itself does not directly equate to the use of prefabricated panels, and there are variations in different scenarios in Shanghai.

Firstly, 'mixed-1' typically refers to a brick-concrete structure, which is mainly composed of brick walls (or columns) and reinforced concrete components (such as beams, slabs, and columns) that share the load-bearing function. From the perspective of structural definition itself, it does not explicitly stipulate whether the floor slab must be a prefabricated panel or a cast-in-place slab. Therefore, the 'mixed-1' structure can use prefabricated panels or not use them.

In the specific context of Shanghai, the situation is more complex. On the one hand, there is a view that the floor slabs of 'mixed-1' structures in Shanghai's new housing projects are cast-in-place reinforced concrete rather than prefabricated panels. This type of cast-in-place floor slab generally outperforms prefabricated panels in terms of integrity and durability because it is poured directly on-site and is more tightly connected to the main structure, enabling it to better resist external forces such as earthquakes. On the other hand, the 'mixed-1' structure in Shanghai does not necessarily mean that prefabricated panels are not used. In actual engineering projects, due to the advantages of fast construction speed and relatively low cost, prefabricated panels may still be used in some multi-story buildings. However, with the continuous advancement of construction technology and the increasing demand for building quality, the use of cast-in-place floor slabs has gradually been promoted in multi-story buildings in Shanghai since 2007, especially in relocation housing projects where cast-in-place floor slabs are more common.

In addition, it should be noted that there are indeed certain differences in integrity and durability between prefabricated panel houses and cast-in-place floor slab houses. Since the floor slabs of prefabricated panel houses are prefabricated, their connection to the main structure may not be as tight as that of cast-in-place floor slabs, so they may be slightly inferior in resisting external forces such as earthquakes. In contrast, cast-in-place floor slab houses have better integrity and durability because the floor slabs are poured simultaneously with the main structure.
