Housing Container Installation Rules

Admin September 15, 2026

The housing container installation rules mainly cover aspects such as site selection legality, installation technical requirements, and construction and acceptance standards.

Site Selection Legality

  • Homestead and Wasteland: In rural areas, container houses should be placed on one's own legally confirmed homestead. If placed on wastelands such as barren mountains, slopes, abandoned ponds, or ditches, it is necessary to consult the relevant land management department first and obtain government permission before placement.
  • Avoid Affecting Others: They should not be placed in locations that obstruct rural traffic or affect the lives of other villagers.
  • Non-Illegal Construction Determination: Container houses are movable metal structures and generally do not count as traditional fixed buildings. However, if the ground is hardened, permanent foundations are built, or they are used for business or residence, resulting in a substantial change in land use, they may be considered illegal constructions.

Installation Technical Requirements

  • Structure and Materials: Attention should be paid to the structural type of the container house (welded or bolt-connected), the wall thickness of the steel (1.5 mm to 3 mm), and the coating process (hot-dip galvanizing offers a longer anti-corrosion lifespan).
  • Concealed Works: This includes water installation, electrical installation, and moisture-proof and waterproof projects. It is necessary to ensure construction quality to avoid economic losses or personal safety hazards.
  • Drainage and Water Supply: The installation site should be higher in elevation than the surrounding area. Drainage ditches should be excavated around the container body, and a "gable"-type rain shelter should be installed on the top. Water supply can be connected to the municipal system or additional water tanks can be installed.
  • Thermal Insulation: Container houses do not inherently have thermal insulation functions. Soundproof and thermal insulation cotton should be added, and air conditioning facilities should be installed.

Construction and Acceptance Standards

  • Follow Regulations: Construction must strictly comply with current national laws and regulations, industry standards, and local norms, such as the "Code for Acceptance of Construction Quality of Steel Structures."
  • Quality Acceptance: This includes three parts: material quality acceptance, product factory quality acceptance, and on-site engineering quality acceptance, to ensure that quality standards are met at each stage.
  • Foundation: A reasonable foundation should be designed according to geological conditions to ensure the stability and safety of the container house.
