House Container Design Floor Plan

Admin September 16, 2026

There are various types of house container design floor plans depending on their purpose, area, and design style.

I. Classification by Number of Floors

  1. Single-Floor Design Floor Plan: Commonly seen in 3×6-sized container houses. This design typically features a compact spatial layout with clearly defined functional zones. For example, the bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom may be concentrated on a single floor, allowing each functional area to be relatively independent while facilitating easy communication through reasonable planning, meeting basic living needs.
  2. Two-Floor Design Floor Plan: Taking a 3×6-sized container house as an example again, a two-floor design can increase the usable area. Generally, private spaces such as bedrooms are placed on the second floor, while public activity areas like the living room and kitchen are arranged on the first floor, achieving a separation of dynamic and static areas and enhancing living comfort.

II. Classification by Functional Purpose

  1. Residential-Office Integration Type: In a renovation case of a container office蜗居 (蜗居 here means a small living space) in downtown Shanghai, the designer integrated residential and office functions. In family mode, there is a high-ceilinged living room space that increases the sense of openness; the bedroom space provides a quiet resting environment; the kitchen is connected to the dining room for convenience in daily life; and a tatami space for children to play offers an exclusive activity area for kids. In office mode, the building space functions are redefined, possibly transforming areas like the living room into office spaces to meet different usage needs.
  2. Single-Floor Mini-Mansion Type: A 100-square-meter single-floor mini-mansion is formed by joining two containers. In its floor plan, the living room, dining room, and kitchen are connected, creating a spacious public activity space that enhances spatial transparency and interactivity. At the same time, it is equipped with two bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub, meeting the living quality needs of the occupants.

III. Classification by Style A 30-square-meter 12x2.5-meter container house adopts a pastoral luxury style design, with a floor plan attached. This design incorporates stone and wood elements, creating a natural and warm atmosphere. In addition to indoor space, there is also a pool outdoor area, organically combining indoor and outdoor spaces and providing a leisure and entertainment venue for occupants, enhancing the quality and enjoyment of life.
