Homemade Temporary Mobile Toilet

Admin September 24, 2026

A homemade temporary mobile toilet can be constructed using either a water storage barrel or a water storage tank combined with a pallet. Here are the specific steps:

Construction Using a Water Storage Barrel

  1. Basic Structure Setup
Use an angle grinder to split the water storage barrel vertically in half. Fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board for easy mobility. Reinforce the upper side of the barrel with wooden strips and self-tapping screws to increase its height to suit human use.

  2. Wall and Roof Construction
Cut an opening on the side of the water storage barrel, install sponge strips to form a door frame, and insert plastic soft boards to create raised walls. Invert the split upper half of the barrel onto the top of the wooden strips as a roof, and apply waterproof paint to enhance aesthetics and durability.

  3. Drainage and Water Storage System
Drill a hole at the bottom of the barrel to install a drain pipe, forming a floor drain structure. Drill a hole on the side to connect a direct joint, and place a plastic bucket over it as a water storage device. Connect a simple shower heater made from a water pipe (plan the circuit in advance or use battery power).

  4. Sanitary Facility Installation
Install a toilet and water tank, and seal them with glass glue. Connect the drain pipe to a sewage bucket, and extend a water pipe horizontally to the doorway as an inlet for a handwashing basin. Drill holes in the door to install joints and hoses for convenient water use.

Construction Using a Water Storage Tank and Pallet

  1. Mobile Pallet Preparation
Fix universal wheels at the four corners of the bottom of a pallet, and place a water storage tank recovered from a garbage station on it. Use an angle grinder to cut along the marked line at the top, removing the top to form an open tank.

  2. Tank Assembly and Opening
Invert another open-top water storage tank onto the first tank and secure the outer frame with self-tapping screws. Cut a rectangular opening as a doorway, drill a hole in the interior floor to insert an elbow and a water pipe, and seal it to prevent leakage.

  3. Sanitary Facility Fixing
Align the toilet with the drain hole and secure it with glue. Fix water pipes on the wall with clamps, install a faucet, and use a stainless steel basin below to make a handwashing basin and secure it. Connect the inlet pipe of the toilet water tank and the shower hose, and install a shower holder and a toilet seat.

  4. Door Construction and Detail Refinement
Make a door with wooden boards and hinges, and install a door handle. Check the sealing of all connections to ensure no odor leakage. Add lighting equipment or ventilation devices as needed.

Precautions: Wear protective gear (such as gloves and goggles) during construction to avoid risks from angle grinder operation; polish all cut surfaces smoothly to prevent scratches; regularly clean the drainage system to prevent blockages.
