Homemade Portable Toilet Materials

Admin October 08, 2026

The materials for homemade portable toilets can be classified into the following types based on different construction plans:

I. Water Storage Tank Modification Plan

Prepare a water storage tank as the main container, use an angle grinder to cut and open holes, and construct a frame structure with wooden boards and wooden strips. Universal wheels are used for mobility. For sealing and waterproofing, use sponge strips, foam strips, and white waterproof paint. The internal lining can be made of plastic soft boards or discarded honeycomb wooden boards. The sewage system requires drain pipes, plastic buckets, direct connectors, water pipes, tees, and hoses for connection. The flushing device requires a showerhead, toilet, water tank, and glass glue for fixation. A sewage bucket is used to collect waste.

II. Simple Temporary Toilet Plan

  1. Portable Toilet: The core materials are a collapsible frame and disposable bags, suitable for short-term use.
  2. Bucket Toilet: Use a 10-20 liter plastic bucket with a lid as the container, lined with a thick garbage bag, and sprinkle cat litter or wood shavings to absorb moisture and eliminate odors. Provide toilet paper and disinfectant. Optional simple tent or screen for privacy.
  3. Tent Toilet: Combine a small tent with a portable toilet or bucket device, ensuring the tent has good ventilation to avoid odor accumulation.

III. Customized Single-Person Portable Toilet Plan

  1. Construction Site: The main body is made of thickened steel plates or high-density polyethylene, combining durability and impact resistance.
  2. Outdoor Activities: The frame is made of aluminum alloy, lightweight and corrosion-resistant.
  3. Scenic Spots/Nature Reserves: Prioritize the use of biodegradable materials to reduce environmental impact.
  4. Temporary Household Needs: The design should be compact in size, with an internal odor removal module (such as an activated carbon filter).
  5. Upgrade Options: Use metal sheets or plastic composite materials for the main body. Basic configurations include a toilet, paper holder, and handrail. Optional installations include a flushing system, activated carbon odor removal device, or solar-powered ventilation fan.

IV. Handmade Simple Toilet Plan

  1. In-ground Toilet: Dig a toilet sewer to connect to the sewer system, build a frame with four pillars, enclose the walls with tiles or waterproof boards, and lay anti-slip floor tiles on the ground.
  2. Imitation Children's Toy Toilet: Design a hinged toilet lid and a hidden storage cabinet, using metal hinges to fix the structure and ensure stability.
