Homemade Portable Toilet Ideas

Admin October 11, 2026

There are mainly two creative ideas for homemade portable toilets: using a water storage tank to make a movable toilet and using PVC pipes to make a flexibly movable commode-style toilet.

Making a Movable Toilet Using a Water Storage Tank

First, select a water storage tank at home and use an angle grinder to split it in half lengthwise. Then, fix universal wheels at the four corners of a wooden board to facilitate the movement of the entire toilet. Attach wooden strips and self-tapping screws to the upper side of the tank to increase its height, providing space for installing other components later. Cut an opening on the side of the water storage tank, install sponge strips to form a door frame, and insert plastic soft boards to create raised walls, enhancing the privacy and stability of the toilet. Place the upper half of the water storage tank on top of the wooden strips as the roof and apply white waterproof paint to improve aesthetics and provide waterproofing. Use foam strips to拼接 (assemble) discarded honeycomb wooden boards to make a simple door for easy opening and closing. Cut a hole at the bottom of the tank and install a drain pipe to form a floor drain for easy sewage discharge. Drill holes on the side and bottom of a plastic bucket and connect them with direct fittings. Place the plastic bucket on the roof to form a small water storage device for storing flushing water. Use water pipes to make a bathroom heater, install a three-way fitting to connect a showerhead to meet bathing needs. Place a toilet and install a water tank, securing it with glass glue to ensure the toilet is stable. Finally, connect the drain pipe to a sewage tank and horizontally connect a water pipe from the three-way fitting of the outlet pipe to the doorway as the inlet pipe for a handwashing basin, completing the functions of the toilet.

Making a Flexibly Movable Commode-Style Toilet Using PVC Pipes

Prepare four plastic lids, drill small holes through them with an electric drill, thread screws through the holes, and screw them into nuts and wheel combinations for fixation. Cut four short sections of straight pipes and connect them to the plastic lids. Drill circular holes through the cross-side of a three-way fitting, assemble the two side support parts, and insert straight pipes into the reserved holes of the three-way fitting to form the base frame. Install the wheel covers. Extend straight pipes vertically upwards, along with elbow reducers on both sides, install a wooden footrest and base, secure the backrest at the rear with screws, add and tighten plastic pipes at the four front corners as handrails, and use soft tubes to edge the front of the wooden board to increase comfort during use. Finally, cut a circular hole of the required size in the middle of the wooden board as the commode position.
