Homemade Dog Mobile Toilet

Admin September 23, 2026

There are various methods for making a homemade dog mobile toilet, and you can choose an appropriate plan based on the ease of obtaining materials and cost. Here are the specific methods:

Low-cost homemade with purchased materials
If the budget is limited, you can buy basic materials for quick construction. Plan 1: Prepare a stable tray that is resistant to acids and alkalis, three transparent acrylic sheets, 10 right-angle corner brackets, and one puppy pad (an additional acrylic sheet is needed for male puppies). Car stickers can be used for waterproofing. Fix the acrylic sheets with corner brackets to form a fence structure, and lay a puppy pad at the bottom to absorb urine. This is suitable for scenarios where toilet stability is highly required. Plan 2: Directly purchase a 20-yuan mesh tray as the main body of the dog toilet, which requires no complex assembly and is suitable for temporary use or small dogs.

Zero-cost homemade with waste materials
Method 1 (Double trays + iron sieve): Take two trays, one large and one small, and place the small one inside the large one to form a double-layer structure. Cut open a rubber hose and wrap it around the iron sieve, then fix it with plastic ropes to form a grid layer that allows urine to leak through. When using it, lay newspapers or puppy pads on the iron sieve, and the urine will leak into the lower tray through the grid for easy cleaning. Method 2 (Cardboard box modification): Use scissors to cut an opening on one side of a discarded cardboard box for the dog to enter and exit, lay newspapers or puppy pads inside, and place it in a fixed position such as a corner. This method has extremely low cost, but the cardboard box needs to be replaced regularly to prevent moisture and deformation. Method 3 (Washbasin or tray): Choose a large and shallow washbasin or a rectangular stainless-steel tray, and place an anti-slip mat at the bottom to prevent the dog from slipping. Guide the dog to use it through training, which is suitable for families with limited space.

Medium-cost homemade with combined materials
Method 4 (Tray + bathroom floor mat): Purchase a 7.5-yuan tray and four bathroom floor mats costing a total of 8 yuan (choose models with support points, moderate thickness, and not easily collapsible). Put newspapers soaked with the dog's urine into the tray, and lay the floor mats on top. Use the smell of the urine to guide the dog to excrete at a fixed point. Method 5 (Plastic tray + grid): If you have a dog cage at home, you can directly use the plastic tray at the bottom of the cage; if not, you need to buy one separately. Pair it with a plastic grid with mesh smaller than the dog's paws but allowing urine to leak through, forming a structure that can separate urine and feces for easy cleaning.

Key points for making:

  • Ensure that the size of the toilet is suitable for the dog's body size to avoid inconvenience due to a too-small size.
  • Regularly replace puppy pads, newspapers, or clean the tray to maintain hygiene.
  • In the early stages of training, you can leave the smell of the dog's urine on the toilet to help it establish a conditioned reflex.
