Two-Story Container Houses in Hainan

Admin September 17, 2026

There are related practices of two-story container houses in Hainan, but a large-scale product system has not yet been formed.

From practical cases, two-story container houses have been applied in some areas of Hainan. For example, in island tourism development, some customers have used containers to build two-story homestays. The specific operation method is as follows: First, use bricks to build a simple base to ensure the stability of the foundation. Then, installation workers assemble and combine multiple standard container modules to finally form a two-story structure. This model makes full use of the standardized and movable characteristics of containers. At the same time, the brick base solves the problem of soft foundations in coastal areas of Hainan, effectively improving the wind resistance and service life of the houses.

From the perspective of market supply, there are container-related businesses in Hainan, but standardized products for two-story container houses are not explicitly mentioned in public information. These businesses mainly provide container modification services and can customize single-story or multi-story structures according to customer needs, but a unified set of specifications, parameters, or technical standards has not yet been established. In addition, most of the movable panel houses and container mobile houses on the Hainan market are single-story structures. Although some products have modular expansion capabilities, there are relatively few cases explicitly labeled as two-story designs, reflecting that this field is still in the development stage.

In terms of technical feasibility, the construction of two-story container houses needs to focus on solving the problem of structural stability. The load-bearing design of standard containers is mainly for single-story stacking. To build a two-story structure, it is necessary to enhance the overall rigidity by strengthening corner fittings connections and adding transverse supports. At the same time, Hainan has a tropical monsoon climate, so special consideration should be given to anti-corrosion treatment, such as using galvanized steel or epoxy resin coatings, to extend the service life of the houses in high-temperature and high-humidity environments.

Regarding the expansion of application scenarios, in addition to homestays, two-story container houses can also be used for temporary offices, emergency rescue, and other scenarios. Their advantages include a short construction period (usually 7-15 days), disassembly and reusability, and compliance with Hainan's policy orientation of promoting the development of prefabricated buildings. However, it should be noted that such buildings need to pass planning approval to ensure compliance with local building safety regulations.
