Gold Mobile Toilet

Admin October 09, 2026

Strictly speaking, there is currently no 'gold mobile toilet', but there are some cases of luxurious toilets made of gold.

Hong Kong Gold Toilet

The full name of the Hong Kong Gold Toilet is the 'Splendid Environmental Protection Restroom'. It is located on Man Lok Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It was funded and built in 2001 by Lam Sai-wing, the chairman of Hang Fung Gold Technology Limited in Hong Kong. This toilet is extremely luxurious, using a total of 380 kilograms of gold, and is also inlaid with 6,200 diamonds and pearls. The overall cost was approximately HK$38 million, with some reports stating it was US$5.8 million. It has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the 'World's Most Luxurious Restroom' and the 'World's Most Expensive Toilet Seat'. However, this facility has not been open to the public since 2008. Judging from its construction location and nature, it is not a traditional mobile toilet but a luxurious facility fixed at a specific location for public viewing and experience during a specific period.

18K Gold Toilet

The Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan created the interactive art piece, the 18K Gold Toilet, in 2016. This toilet is made of 18K gold, weighs 100 kilograms, and is fully functional, not just a decorative piece. It has been exhibited at places such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and Blenheim Palace in the UK, attracting the attention of many visitors. At the Sotheby's auction on November 18, 2025, it was sold for a high price of US$12.1 million. However, it is also not a mobile toilet. It exists more as an art piece, provoking people's thoughts on topics such as art and consumption through its unique material and shape.

Although there is currently no mobile toilet made of gold in the true sense, these cases of luxurious toilets demonstrate the application of gold in special scenarios and people's pursuit of extreme luxury and unique design. Whether gold mobile toilets will appear in the future depends on factors such as market demand and technological development.
