Foreign Street Mobile Toilets

Admin September 23, 2026

Mobile toilets on streets abroad vary in characteristics depending on the country. Here's an overview of the mobile toilets in the Netherlands, the United States, and New York:

The street mobile toilets in the Netherlands are represented by the "fully automatic public toilets," which showcase a high level of technological sophistication and cleanliness standards. The toilets feature a 360-degree rotating cleaning function for the toilet bowls, with two bowls alternating in use to ensure that one is always available. After a toilet cubicle is used, it enters a fully enclosed cleaning chamber, where it undergoes a series of cleaning processes, including 360-degree spraying with foam cleaner, rinsing with powerful water jets, and hot-air drying. The cleaning process is comprehensive and meticulous. However, at present, these "luxury" toilets are only being piloted in Amsterdam, and the local government has plans to extend them to scenic spots and stations, with the potential to allow more people to enjoy this high-quality toilet experience in the future.

The street mobile toilets in the United States are colloquially known as the "American beehives" in online slang. Although this term is more of a figurative expression, it also reflects, to some extent, that these mobile toilets may possess certain uniqueness or prevalence. However, detailed information about their specific characteristics is currently relatively scarce.

The smart public toilet pilot project in New York highlights the characteristics of intelligence and convenience. The project, which cost $4 million, is equipped with multiple functions such as fully automatic timing, intelligent early warning, and remote supervision. Among them, a strict 10-minute time limit for use is enforced. Before the countdown ends, the system issues a voice reminder, and after the time limit is exceeded, the sliding door opens automatically. This design effectively prevents toilet cubicles from being occupied for extended periods. In terms of unlocking methods, intelligent means are employed, allowing citizens to enter by sending a text message or swiping a community-specific card, which is convenient and quick. Moreover, the equipment does not need to be connected to the city's water and sewage networks, making installation efficient and cost-effective, which is of great significance for urban construction and resource utilization. Additionally, it is equipped with touchless fixtures and free menstrual products, fully considering the usage needs and health and hygiene issues of citizens.
