Prefabricated Earth Blocks for Earth Houses
Prefabricated earth blocks for earth houses generally refer to adobe blocks, which are square clay blocks used in traditional architecture for purposes such as building walls and constructing kangs (heated brick beds). Some lightweight earth prefabricated blocks may be related but have not been explicitly confirmed for use in earth house construction.

Definition and Uses of Adobe Blocks
Adobe blocks are square clay blocks made using molds, also known as sun-dried bricks. They are widely used in traditional architecture. Their primary use is for building walls. By stacking adobe blocks one by one, the wall structure of a house is formed, providing basic support and enclosure functions. Additionally, adobe blocks can be used for constructing kangs. In some northern regions, kangs are important facilities for heating and resting in winter. Due to their good thermal insulation properties and certain strength, adobe blocks are ideal materials for building kangs.
Production Process of Adobe Blocks
When making adobe blocks, the first step is to select appropriate materials. Generally, cohesive loess is chosen. This type of loess has good cohesion and plasticity, ensuring the strength and stability of the formed adobe blocks. To enhance the structural performance of the adobe blocks, fibrous materials such as straw are also added. Straw acts like steel bars in the adobe blocks, improving their tensile strength and reducing the likelihood of cracking.
In terms of the molding process, there are mainly wet molding and dry pounding methods. The wet molding method involves adding water to cohesive loess and stirring it into a mud-like consistency. Then, the mud is poured into a wooden mold, and it is compacted manually or mechanically to take shape within the mold. Finally, the formed adobe block is removed from the mold and placed in a well-ventilated area to dry and lose moisture. Once completely dry, it can be used. The dry pounding method involves slightly moistening the cohesive loess with water to give it a certain degree of humidity without being overly soft. Then, using a wooden mallet or other tools, the loess is repeatedly pounded in the mold to make it tightly bound, forming an adobe block. Similarly, after drying and losing moisture, it is put into use.
Other Related Prefabricated Blocks
In addition to traditional adobe blocks, there is information about lightweight earth prefabricated blocks. However, it has not been clearly stated whether these lightweight earth prefabricated blocks are used in earth house construction. Lightweight earth prefabricated blocks may have characteristics such as light weight and good thermal insulation. However, when used in earth house construction, it is necessary to consider their compatibility with traditional adobe blocks in terms of strength, durability, construction techniques, as well as whether they comply with local building codes and traditional architectural styles.
