How to Use Portable Toilets in Dubai

Admin September 27, 2026

The use of portable toilets in Dubai requires selecting the appropriate operation based on the type, with core steps including confirming the type, using it properly, maintaining hygiene, and paying attention to safety, as detailed below:

1. Confirm the toilet type and choose the operation method

Portable toilets in Dubai are mainly divided into flush types, dry types (such as foam-sealed types), biodegradable types, and waterless packing types. Before use, confirm the type through identification or by asking the management staff:

  • Flush type: Equipped with a water tank or foot-operated flush device, press the button or step on it to flush. If the flush fails, check the water source in the tank (for manual types) or the battery level (for electric types).
  • Dry type: Manually add covering material (such as sawdust or foam) to the toilet bowl to cover the excrement and suppress odors. Replenish the material promptly when it is insufficient.
  • Biodegradable type: Use it directly. The excrement is decomposed by microorganisms, requiring no additional operation, but avoid throwing in non-degradable items (such as plastic bottles).
  • Waterless packing type: Equipped with a biodegradable environmental protection bag or sealed container inside, the excrement falls into the bag by gravity. Before use, check if the packing bag is properly installed to ensure good sealing; replace the bag every 50-100 uses to avoid leakage.

2. Standardize the door opening, locking, and usage process

  • Door opening and locking: Most toilets use simple latches or rotating locks, with an "Occupied/Unoccupied" sign inside. Flip the sign after use. If the door lock fails, gently push the door panel to check if it is stuck, avoiding violent pulling. Some simple toilets change the external display status (such as "Occupied" or "Unoccupied") by pulling the door bolt.
  • Hygiene handling: Before use, you can place a disposable seat pad or disinfectant wipe to reduce direct contact; dispose of waste in designated trash cans, and do not throw female sanitary products into the toilet bowl (which may clog the pipes); regularly clean the exterior of waterless packing toilets to avoid dirt buildup.

3. Post-use maintenance and feedback

  • Facility inspection: If the flush fails in a flush-type toilet, check the water tank or battery; for waterless packing toilets, confirm the packing bag replacement cycle to avoid overflow due to full capacity.
  • Timely feedback: If facility damage is found (such as water leakage or no flush), immediately report it to the management staff to avoid affecting subsequent use.

4. Scene adaptation and environmental protection and safety

  • Outdoor activities or peak periods: It is recommended to use them during off-peak hours, bring a portable disinfectant spray to clean contact surfaces, and reduce waiting time.
  • Temporary construction sites or emergency places: Complete the operation quickly to reduce occupation time, while paying attention to sand prevention (such as closing door gaps) and ventilation issues in high temperatures.
  • Environmental protection requirements: Do not discard non-degradable items. Some toilets are powered by solar energy, so save water and electricity; when using waterless packing toilets, avoid sharp objects from puncturing the packing bag.
