Dog Toilet Fixed and Not Moved

Admin October 10, 2026

It is the correct approach to keep the dog toilet fixed and not move it. Fixing the position of the dog toilet helps dogs establish stable excretion habits. Frequently changing its position can disrupt the conditioned reflex that the dog has formed, causing it to feel confused due to environmental changes and even be unable to accurately find the toilet location, resulting in random excretion. The following explains the reasons and countermeasures in two aspects:

The Necessity of Fixing the Dog Toilet

A dog's excretion behavior is strongly influenced by habits and environmental cues. When the dog toilet is in a fixed position, the dog can quickly identify the excretion area through smell and spatial memory, forming a stable cognition that 'this is the place for excretion'. If the position changes frequently, the dog needs to readapt to the new environment, a process that may trigger anxiety or confusion. Especially for puppies or elderly dogs with weaker adaptability, they are more prone to excretion control problems. In addition, a fixed position also helps the owner clean and maintain more efficiently, avoiding cleaning blind spots caused by position changes.

Countermeasures for Dogs Not Excreting in the Fixed Toilet

If a dog has developed a habit of using the toilet in a fixed place but suddenly shows abnormalities, the following reasons need to be investigated:

  • Inappropriate Location: If the dog toilet is close to the food bowl, water bowl, or dog bed, the dog may instinctively resist excreting in the 'living area'. In this case, adjust the position of the toilet to ensure it is at least 1 meter away from the eating and resting areas.
  • Inconvenient Use: A toilet that is too small in size, has a too-high pedal, or has an unsuitable material (such as a rough surface that scratches the paw pads) may cause the dog to resist using it. Choose an appropriate size according to the dog's body size and check if the pedal height is easy for the dog to climb.
  • Cleaning Issues: If the toilet is not cleaned in a timely manner, the residual odor of excrement can stimulate the dog and force it to look for other clean areas. It is recommended to clean it 1-2 times a day and use pet-specific deodorizers to eliminate odors.

Training Methods: If the above reasons are excluded, correct the behavior through positive reinforcement training. When the dog excretes in the correct place, immediately give it a food reward or verbal praise to strengthen its memory. If it excretes in the wrong place, scold it loudly on the spot (be careful not to frighten it) and guide it to the correct place. Training requires patience and avoid physical punishment to prevent triggering a rebellious mentality.
