Dimensions of Container House Design
Admin September 16, 2026
The dimensions of container house design are mainly divided into three categories: international standard dimensions, non-standard customized dimensions, and special design dimensions, as detailed below:

I. International Standard Container House Dimensions
International standard container houses are based on 20-foot and 40-foot containers, with uniform dimensions and wide applications.
- 20-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 6058mm (20 feet) in length, 2438mm (8 feet) in width, and 2896mm (9.5 feet) in height. The internal net length is approximately 5.89 meters, net width is 2.35 meters, net height is 2.39 meters, and the internal area is about 13.85 square meters.
- 40-foot Standard Container: The external length is 12192mm (40 feet), with the same width and height as the 20-foot container. The internal net length is 12.03 meters, net width is 2.35 meters, net height is 2.39 meters, and the internal area is about 28.27 square meters.
- High Cube Container (40HC): Based on the 40-foot standard container, the height is increased to 3048mm (10 feet), with an internal net height of up to 2.69 meters, suitable for scenarios requiring higher space.
II. Non-Standard Customized Container House Dimensions
Non-standard customization breaks through standard dimension limitations through splicing or structural adjustments to meet diverse needs.
- Width Expansion: By horizontally splicing two standard containers, the width can be increased from 2.43 meters to 4.86 meters or wider, forming a double-span structure suitable for scenarios requiring larger horizontal space.
- Length Stacking: By vertically connecting multiple 20-foot or 40-foot containers, structures of 60 feet (about 18 meters), 80 feet (about 24 meters), or even longer can be formed, commonly used for large office or living spaces.
- Height Customization: By adjusting the top frame structure, the internal net height can be increased to over 3 meters, meeting the needs for special equipment installation or high-ceiling spaces.
- Irregular Design: Combining sloped roofs, curved roofs, or locally raised structures breaks through traditional rectangular limitations, enhancing design flexibility and aesthetics.
III. Special Design Dimensions of Container Houses
Special designs optimize dimensions for specific scenarios, balancing functionality and practicality.
- Common Standard Single Container: With a length of 6 meters, width of 3 meters, and height of 2.7 to 2.8 meters, the area is about 18 square meters, suitable for independent living or small offices.
- Small Container House: With dimensions of 3 meters by 3 meters, the area is only about 9 square meters, suitable for temporary housing or compact space needs.
- Large Container House: With a length of 7 meters and width of 3 meters, it is often used for two-story splicing or office areas with corridors, expanding vertical space utilization.
- Duplex Container House: For example, three 40-foot containers spliced together, with dimensions of 11.8m × 6.75m × 2.8m, providing a usable area of up to 80 square meters, suitable for multi-functional composite space needs.
