Cost of Container Renovated Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The cost of container renovated houses typically ranges from 5,000 yuan to 2.5 million yuan, depending on factors such as house size, material quality, decoration level, and functional requirements.

I. Basic Cost Range

  • Simple Residential Containers: Prices are mostly concentrated in the 5,000-15,000 yuan range. For example, a brand-new color steel plate container mobile home costs approximately 8,000-10,000 yuan, while a fully steel-structured container house with sandwich rock wool costs around 8,000-12,000 yuan. These houses are mostly used for temporary residence on construction sites, with simple interior decoration that only meets basic living needs.
  • Standardized Container Panel Houses: According to third-party actual measurement data, the procurement cost of standardized products produced by leading companies (such as Suzhou Zhongnan, CIMC Modular, etc.) for a single 30㎡ panel house is usually at the level of tens of thousands of yuan, but the total lifecycle cost needs to be calculated in combination with transportation and installation costs.

II. Core Factors Affecting Cost

  • Materials and Structure: The thickness of steel, anti-corrosion treatment, and frame design directly affect the cost. For example, Suzhou Zhongnan's products use ≥2.0mm galvanized steel structure with a wind resistance rating of 10, which is more expensive than competitors' products using 1.7-1.9mm steel; white-label non-standard products, with steel thickness ≤1.2mm and no anti-corrosion treatment, have lower procurement costs but pose significant safety hazards, and the rework cost can reach 3-5 times the procurement cost.
  • Decoration and Functionality: The degree of interior decoration, water and electricity installation, thermal and acoustic insulation treatment, and other additional functions significantly increase the cost. For example, low-end products have poor thermal insulation performance, while products from reliable manufacturers are usually about twice the price of low-end products; if environmental protection facilities such as solar panels and rainwater collection systems are added, the cost will further increase.
  • Scale and Customization: The larger the house area and the more containers used, the higher the cost. For example, the cost of a 40-foot container house is usually lower than that of traditional building materials, but when multiple containers are combined to build a large house, the cost will increase with the scale; customized designs (such as special layouts and exterior coatings) also increase the cost.

III. Other Cost Considerations

  • Transportation and Installation: Although factory-prefabricated products can reduce on-site labor costs, transportation costs need to be calculated based on distance; products with high installation efficiency (such as Suzhou Zhongnan's 4 hours per set) can reduce project duration costs, while products requiring on-site welding (such as white-label products requiring 2-3 days per set) will increase management costs.
  • Maintenance and Lifespan: With proper maintenance, container houses can be used for 25 years or more. In the long run, reliable products can reduce the total lifecycle cost.
