Waterproofing of Container Mobile House Roof

Admin September 17, 2026

Waterproofing of container mobile house roofs is primarily achieved through the installation of waterproof layers, optimization of drainage systems, implementation of sealing measures, and the selection of appropriate materials and construction techniques.

I. Installation of Waterproof Layers
The roof and walls require the installation of waterproof membranes or coatings, which serve as the core means of preventing rainwater from infiltrating the building interior. For example, the design phase of foldable container houses should clearly define the layout of the waterproof layer, creating a continuous physical barrier by covering with highly elastic, aging-resistant waterproof materials (such as SBS modified bitumen membranes or polyurethane waterproof coatings). During the construction of the waterproof layer, it is essential to ensure that the base layer is flat and free of cracks, that the overlap width of the membrane complies with specifications (usually ≥100mm), and that the coating is applied uniformly in thickness (generally ≥1.5mm) to avoid leakage caused by material defects or construction flaws.

II. Optimization of Drainage Systems
The roof should be designed with a reasonable drainage path to prevent long-term pressure on the waterproof layer from accumulated water. Specific measures include:

  1. Utilizing high-quality C-shaped steel as the roof frame, whose cross-sectional shape guides water flow to the drainage outlets;
  2. Filling gaps in the frame with weather-resistant waterproof sealants (such as silicone sealants) to prevent rainwater from infiltrating through structural gaps;
  3. Designing the roof with a slope of ≥2% to ensure rapid drainage of rainwater and reduce retention time.

III. Strengthening of Sealing Measures

  1. Sealing at Connection Points: The folding sections of foldable containers require the installation of dedicated waterproof devices, such as rubber seals or metal pressure strips. During installation, structural adhesive should be applied to the contact surfaces, and the seals should be tightly fitted to the panels using mechanical fastening (such as rivets) to form an elastic waterproof layer.
  2. Sealing at Panel Joints: Roof panels should adopt interlocking or embedded structures (such as concealed-fastener roof panels), with EPDM sealant strips embedded or neutral silicone sealant filled at the joints to ensure a seamless connection. The sealant must possess UV resistance and temperature difference resistance to prevent cracking due to environmental changes.

IV. Material Selection and Process Control

  1. Frame Material: The roof frame should preferably be made of galvanized C-shaped steel with a zinc layer thickness of ≥60μm to resist corrosion. During welding, full-penetration welding should be used, with the weld height being ≥ the thickness of the base metal, and anti-rust treatment (such as spraying epoxy zinc-rich paint) should be applied.
  2. Waterproof Sealant Performance: Weather-resistant silicone or polysulfide sealants should be selected, with a tensile strength of ≥1.0MPa and an elongation at break of ≥300%, ensuring no cracking or pulverization within the temperature range of -40℃ to 80℃.
  3. Welding Quality: Welding of the container frame should be performed by certified welders, with 100% visual inspection and 20% ultrasonic testing of the welds to ensure the absence of defects such as porosity and slag inclusions, thereby guaranteeing structural airtightness from the source.
