Renovation of Container Light Steel Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The renovation of container light steel houses should combine the characteristics of containers with the advantages of light steel structures, and be systematically planned from aspects such as structural reinforcement, functional zoning, water and electricity renovation, thermal insulation and sound insulation, and decorative design, as follows:

Structural Reinforcement and Foundation Treatment

Container light steel houses use containers as modular foundations, and structural stability must be ensured. For welded integral containers, the roof load is transferred through the side wall columns to the bottom sill, and then evenly distributed to the ground through the bottom sill. Before installation, the floating soil and debris on the ground should be removed, the original soil layer should be compacted, and for long-term fixed use, a concrete strip foundation should be poured. The recommended width is 30 cm to 50 cm, and the depth should be determined according to the thickness of the local frozen soil layer. The levelness error of the foundation top surface should be controlled within 2 mm per meter. For bolt-connected assembled containers, the steel wall thickness of the columns and bottom sills should be checked (common specifications are 1.5 mm to 3 mm). The thicker the wall thickness, the greater the load-bearing redundancy. At the same time, the tightness of each connection node should be ensured to avoid affecting the overall stability due to loose nodes.

Functional Zoning and Space Utilization

The internal space of container light steel houses is limited, and functional zoning should be reasonably planned. For example, it can be designed as a residence (such as a two-bedroom, one-living room, one-kitchen, and one-bathroom layout) or a storage space according to actual needs. Through preliminary planning of internal partitions, doors and windows, functional areas, and water and electricity positions, a complete functional layout can be completed within a limited area. For deformable structures such as double-wing expansion containers, space conversion design between the transportation state and the use state is required to ensure a balance between transportation efficiency and actual usable area.

Water and Electricity Renovation and Equipment Installation

Water and electricity renovation is a key part of the renovation of container light steel houses. Water and electricity pipelines should be embedded according to functional zoning to ensure the safety and convenience of the water supply, drainage, and power supply systems. For example, the bathroom should use waterproof and moisture-proof materials (such as blue gradient tiles) and install suspended washbasins, toilets, and other equipment; the kitchen should be designed with a linear kitchen counter, and additional cabinets and wall cabinets should be laid to expand storage space, while simple lighting fixtures should be selected to save energy.

Thermal Insulation, Sound Insulation, and Comfort Improvement

The thermal insulation and sound insulation performance of container light steel houses directly affects living comfort. The thermal insulation materials (such as rock wool and polyurethane foam) should be thickened, and air conditioners and other equipment should be installed to regulate the indoor temperature. In addition, materials such as double-glazed windows and sound insulation felt can be used to improve sound insulation and ensure indoor quietness.

Decorative Design and Style Selection

The decorative design of container light steel houses should take into account both aesthetics and practicality. The exterior can be painted with black smooth paint paired with a natural wood interior to create a visual impact; the interior can use wooden materials to highlight clean lines and a warm atmosphere, and large-area glass design can make the interior brighter. At the same time, decoration styles such as minimalism and industrial style can be selected according to personal preferences to create a personalized living space.
