Container House with Three Bedrooms and One Kitchen
The design of a container house with three bedrooms and one kitchen requires comprehensive consideration of dimensions, materials, functional layout, and construction points to meet daily family needs.

Dimension Selection
The standard dimensions of containers are 6 meters × 2.4 meters or 12 meters × 2.4 meters, but in rural areas, non-standard dimensions need to be customized based on the plot size, terrain conditions, and surrounding environment. For example, if three separate bedrooms are required, two 12-meter containers can be spliced together, or space can be expanded through modular combinations. Sufficient aisle width (recommended ≥ 1.2 meters) should be reserved to avoid cramped spaces; at the same time, the container height (usually 2.6-2.8 meters) should be considered to ensure living comfort.
Material Selection
- Steel: It has strong load-bearing capacity and high durability, suitable for long-term use, but requires anti-rust treatment (such as hot-dip galvanizing). For example, a 2.3-millimeter-thick hot-dip galvanized steel frame was used in a Thai case, significantly improving structural stability.
- Aluminum Alloy: It is lightweight and highly corrosion-resistant, suitable for humid or rainy areas, but has a higher cost. Windows and doors often use aluminum alloy tempered coated materials, balancing safety and thermal insulation performance.
- Composite Materials: Such as rock wool sandwich panels, which combine aesthetics and environmental friendliness, but attention should be paid to the fire rating (recommended Class A non-combustible materials).
Design and Functional Optimization
- Spatial Layout:
- Open Kitchen: Reduce partitions to increase the sense of space and facilitate cleaning and maintenance; a half-wall or bar counter can be set between the kitchen and living room to balance functionality and transparency.
- Lighting and Ventilation: Reasonably set the positions of windows (recommended area ≥ 1/10 of the floor area) and doors to form a cross-ventilation; shading curtains can be installed on bedroom windows to avoid overheating in summer.
- Water and Electricity Systems:
- Reserve sufficient electrical outlets (such as 1 socket per bed in the bedroom, 4-6 sockets in the kitchen), and the air conditioner requires an independent circuit.
- The water pipe layout should consider the drainage slope (recommended ≥ 1%), and waterproof layers (height ≥ 1.8 meters) should be made in the kitchen and bathroom.
- Thermal Insulation and Heat Preservation:
- Fill the walls with glass wool or polyurethane foam, and install thermal insulation boards on the outer layer to reduce energy consumption.
- The roof can be covered with reflective film or planted with greenery to reduce heat radiation.
Construction Points
- Foundation Treatment: The container should be placed on a concrete foundation or steel beam to avoid direct contact with the ground and prevent rusting.
- Joint Treatment: The joints between two containers should be wrapped with special profiles (such as waterproof profiles in the Thai case) to ensure tightness; sealant should be filled inside to prevent water leakage.
- Acceptance Standards: Check the structural stability, water and electricity safety, and door and window tightness to ensure compliance with the requirements of the "Technical Specification for Container Houses" (GB/T 36430-2018).
