Container House with Bathroom

Admin September 15, 2026

A container house with a bathroom is a temporary or semi-permanent building that transforms a standard container into a living space equipped with bathroom facilities, presenting certain advantages and limitations in specific application scenarios.

Structural and Configuration Features

Container houses are modified based on standard containers, with external standard dimensions approximately 6.06 meters in length, 2.44 meters in width, and 2.59 meters in height. After accounting for wall thickness, each side is reduced by about 10 centimeters internally. During modification, separate bathrooms and showers are created, and some units also include living rooms and bedrooms. They are equipped with independent bathrooms, showers, refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners to meet basic living needs. For example, the container houses used at the Nagoya Asian Games were divided into two units per suite, with each unit housing three people. They shared bathrooms, showers, and washing machines, and were equipped with air conditioners and refrigerators, with barrier-free ramps at the entrances.

Application Scenarios

  • Event Accommodation: For the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games, the organizing committee adopted a combination of container houses, cruise ships, and scattered hotels to accommodate participants in order to reduce costs. The Chinese men's basketball team stayed in temporary container dormitories at the port area.
  • Temporary Residence: In emergencies or temporary projects, they can serve as living spaces. Initially, containers were used to house earthquake refugees, providing shelter and basic living support in the short term after disasters.

Advantages

  • Lower Cost: Compared to constructing new traditional buildings, the cost of building and modifying container houses is relatively low, meeting the needs of projects with limited budgets. The Nagoya Asian Games adopted container houses to cut costs.
  • Flexible Assembly: Container houses can be quickly assembled and disassembled, facilitating relocation and reassembly at different locations, making them suitable for temporary or highly mobile scenarios.

Limitations

  • Limited Space: The internal space is relatively small, restricting movement for tall individuals. For example, Chinese men's basketball players, who are over two meters tall, found the beds in the container houses, measuring only 1.95 meters in length and 90 centimeters in width, inadequate, with their legs hanging off the bed, severely limiting muscle recovery.
  • Poor Living Comfort: They may not perform as well as traditional buildings in terms of sound insulation, heat insulation, and ventilation, resulting in a poorer living experience. During heavy rain at the Nagoya Asian Games, the container houses experienced water accumulation and leakage, and due to their strong airtightness, the air conditioning was less effective, affecting athletes' rest.
