Sealing of Windows and Doors in Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

When sealing windows and doors in container houses, it is necessary to ensure sealing performance from multiple aspects, including sealing structures, drainage designs, installation techniques, profile hardware, and hole sealing. The specific measures are as follows:

  1. Multi-layer Sealing Structure
Two to three sealing strips of different materials should be installed between the window/door frame and sash, such as EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber strips. This material is resistant to aging and weathering, forming multiple barriers to effectively block rainwater and air infiltration. The sealing strips must fit tightly against the profiles to prevent sealing failure due to deformation or aging.

  2. Optimized Drainage Design
The window/door frame should be designed with drainage holes and guide channels. When a small amount of rainwater breaches the first seal, it can be quickly drained outside the container through concealed channels, preventing water accumulation and backflow. The drainage holes must remain unobstructed to avoid blockage by debris, and the slope of the guide channels should be reasonable to ensure efficient drainage.

  3. Precise Installation Techniques
During installation, tools such as spirit levels should be used to ensure uniform and tight gaps between the window/door frame and the container opening, as well as between the sash and frame. High-quality sealants (such as silicone sealants) should be used to fill the gaps, and the caulking process should ensure dense filling to eliminate leakage points. After installation, the flexibility of window/door operation should be checked to avoid uneven pressure on the sealing strips due to installation deviations.

  4. Quality Assurance of Profiles and Hardware
Selecting sturdy profiles (such as thermal-break aluminum or galvanized steel) can resist wind pressure deformation, ensuring continuous effective contact of the sealing strips. High-quality hardware (such as multi-point locks and wind-resistant hinges) enhances the overall stability of the windows and doors, preventing sealing damage from shaking in strong winds. The hardware should be installed firmly, with screw holes sealed using a combination of washers and full coverage with sealant to prevent water infiltration.

  5. Waterproof Hole Sealing Process
For water infiltration channels such as hardware installation holes and fixing holes in the container's sealed doors, a four-step standard process should be adopted:

  • Pre-assembly Sealing: Before assembly, use dedicated waterproof plugs and seals to tightly block all reserved holes.
  • Assembly Sealing: For dynamic through-holes, use dust-proof and waterproof combined seals. For screw holes, cover the fixing positions with washers and sealant.
  • Post-assembly Sealing: Uniformly seal all door panel joints and assembly seams.
  • Overall Leak Testing: Conduct a water spray test by directing high-pressure water at all holes to confirm no water leakage before approval.

By implementing these measures, the sealing issues of windows and doors in container houses can be systematically resolved, improving living comfort and durability.
