Renovation of Water Supply and Drainage in Container Houses
The renovation of water supply and drainage in container houses requires systematic planning of both systems to ensure functionality and safety. The key points are as follows:

I. Design Points for the Water Supply System (Water Inlet)
Main Pipeline Introduction and Basic Configuration
The water source (municipal tap water or water pump) is connected to the bottom floor of the container through the main water supply pipe. At the entrance, a main valve, water meter (if metering is required), and filtration equipment should be installed to ensure water quality safety. It is recommended to use PPR or PE pipes for the pipeline material, which are corrosion-resistant and have a long lifespan.Vertical and Horizontal Pipeline Layout
The vertical main pipe is arranged along the corner columns of the container or a dedicated pipeline shaft to transport water to the second floor. Horizontal branch pipes are distributed within the ceiling interlayer or floor joists of each floor, using a 'branch-like' or 'ring-like' layout to connect to various water points (such as kitchens, bathrooms, and balconies).Water Pressure Regulation and Insulation Measures
If there is a significant difference in water pressure between the two floors (e.g., insufficient municipal water pressure), a pressure-reducing valve should be installed at the beginning of the branch pipe on the second floor, or a booster pump should be added on the bottom floor. Pipes exposed outdoors or in non-heated areas (such as connection pipes for rooftop water tanks) should be wrapped with rubber-plastic insulation cotton to prevent freezing or condensation.
II. Design Points for the Drainage System (Sewage and Wastewater)
Same-Floor Drainage as the Primary Method to Avoid Exposed Pipes
The drainage branch pipes of sanitary fixtures on the bottom floor are collected under the floor to the main drainage horizontal pipe with a slope of ≥2%, and finally connected to the main drainage riser or outdoor septic tank/municipal sewer network. For drainage on the second floor, 'inter-floor drainage' is adopted, where branch pipes are collected under the floor of this layer, and the main drainage horizontal pipe and riser are arranged in the ceiling space of the bottom floor to maintain a clean space.Pipeline Material and Ventilation System
PVC-U pipes are preferred for drainage pipes due to their tight connections and corrosion resistance. Each main drainage riser should be equipped with a vent cap at the top to balance the air pressure inside the pipeline and prevent odor or poor drainage caused by the destruction of the water seal.Water Seal and Odor Prevention Treatment
Each drainage fixture (floor drain, sink, basin) must be equipped with a P-type or S-type trap below it, using the stored water to form a water seal and isolate the odor and pests from the sewer.
III. Special Points for Water Supply and Drainage in Container Bathrooms
Drainage Slope and Pipe Diameter Optimization
The slope of the bathroom drainage pipe should be ≥2%, and the pipe diameter should be ≥50mm. Holes should be opened in the side wall of the container in advance to avoid structural damage caused by later cutting. The drainage outlet can be directed to the outside of the container for centralized treatment.Waterproof Sealing and Structural Protection
The joints between the wall panels and the floor should be sealed with neutral silicone structural adhesive, and waterproof adhesive strips should be pressed in. A water stop ridge of 5-10cm high should be set at the wall corners to prevent water seepage from corroding the container structure.Separation of Water and Electricity and Safety Protection
Electrical wires should be laid through pipes at the top of the container, while water supply and drainage pipes should be laid along the bottom floor or side walls, with a distance of ≥30cm between them. It is recommended to use splash-proof sockets and waterproof switches in the bathroom to reduce the risk of electric shock.
During renovation, it is necessary to combine the structural characteristics of the container and strictly follow the specifications for construction to ensure a stable, safe, and durable water supply and drainage system.
