Container House Standard Specifications

Admin September 16, 2026

The common standard specifications of container houses mainly include 20-foot and 40-foot sizes, with specific dimensions and expansion forms as follows:

I. Standard Container Specifications Container-style office houses are modeled after maritime standard containers, with common sizes of 20 feet and 40 feet.

  • 20-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 6058mm (length) × 2438mm (width) × 2591mm (height), with an internal usable area of 5867mm × 2330mm × 2350mm, covering approximately 13.7 square meters. It is suitable for single-person offices, dormitories, or small shops.
  • 40-foot Standard Container: The external dimensions are 12192mm × 2438mm × 2591mm, with internal dimensions of 11998mm × 2330mm × 2350mm, covering approximately 27.9 square meters. It can be divided into multi-functional spaces or dormitories for multiple people.
  • 40-foot High Cube Container: The height is increased to 2896mm (external) and 2655mm (internal), making it suitable for scenarios requiring greater ceiling height, such as exhibition halls or temporary housing.

II. Non-Standard Customization and Expansion Forms In addition to standard specifications, container houses support flexible customization:

  • Size Adjustment: The length can be selected from 3 meters, 6 meters, 9 meters, or 12 meters; the width can be selected from 2.5 meters, 3 meters, or 4 meters; and the height can be selected from 2.6 meters to 2.9 meters. For example, the conventional size for Apple Pods in domestic trade is 3 meters × 6 meters, while the size range for foreign trade is from 5.8 meters × 2.2 meters to 11.5 meters × 2.2 meters.
  • Concatenation Expansion: Multiple containers can be joined together to significantly increase usable area. For example, three 40-foot containers joined together have dimensions of 11.8 meters × 6.75 meters × 2.8 meters, with a usable area of up to 80 square meters, which can be divided into a living room, bedroom, and office area.
  • Modular Combination: By adding side or end expansion modules, the usable area can be increased by 30%-50%, meeting the space needs for long-term on-site office work.

III. Special Scenario Applications

  • Duplex Structure: Double-decker container houses achieve space reuse through vertical stacking, suitable for high-density usage scenarios.
  • Irregular Design: Incorporating elements such as glass curtain walls, curved roofs, or wood-grain finishes, these designs are used for brand displays or cultural and creative parks, balancing functionality and visual appeal.
