Container House Roof Waterproofing

Admin September 15, 2026

Waterproofing for container house roofs requires selecting waterproof coatings with strong weather resistance, good adhesion, and elasticity based on material properties and construction techniques, and standardizing the construction process.

I. Key Points for Selecting Waterproof Materials

  1. Weather Resistance
Container roofs are constantly exposed to sunlight, rain, and temperature variations, necessitating the selection of waterproof materials that can withstand high temperatures and freeze-thaw cycles. For example, Keshun Runtu R303 (with a topcoat) combines 'heat insulation and cooling' with 'topcoat protection' to resist ultraviolet aging; Dayu Shengong waterproof coating maintains stable performance in temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 50 degrees Celsius on the ground surface, making it suitable for extreme climates.

  2. Adhesion and Elasticity
The material must firmly bond to metal or color-coated steel substrates to prevent detachment. Additionally, it should possess elasticity to accommodate the slight movements caused by the thermal expansion and contraction of containers. For instance, Keshun Runtu R320plus waterborne polyurethane coating combines high tensile strength with flexibility, effectively preventing cracks at complex joints; Dayu Shengong coating forms an elastic rubber membrane upon drying, which can stretch and contract with the substrate without breaking.

  3. Scene Adaptability
If the roof requires frequent foot traffic (e.g., for drying clothes or leisure activities), wear-resistant and foot-traffic-resistant materials should be chosen, such as Keshun Runtu R302plus; for roofs with pipes, corners, or other areas prone to leakage, elastic and crack-resistant materials like R320plus should be selected.

II. Key Steps in Construction Techniques

  1. Substrate Preparation
Thoroughly clean the roof surface of rust, oil, and loose layers to ensure a flat and solid substrate. Metal roofs should be derusted and coated with an anti-rust primer, while the joints of color-coated steel plates should be sealed with sealant.

  2. Waterproof Layer Application
Adopt a 'multi-coat application + cross-coverage' technique to ensure uniform coating thickness. For example, Keshun Runtu products should be applied in 2-3 coats, with a total thickness of no less than 1.5mm; Dayu Shengong coating should be applied in layers, avoiding shortcuts that result in insufficient thickness.

  3. Joint Reinforcement
At vulnerable leakage points such as drainage outlets, around pipe penetrations, and at the top of parapet walls, apply additional waterproof coating and lay a non-woven fabric reinforcement layer to form a 'one-fabric, three-coat' structure.

  4. Protective Layer Application (Optional)
To extend the lifespan of the waterproof layer, a layer of glass fiber cloth or aluminum foil reflective film can be applied over the coating. This enhances weather resistance and improves heat insulation.
