Raising the Ridge on Container House Roofs

Admin September 16, 2026

Raising the ridge on container house roofs involves installing a ridge beam or ridge plate at the center of the roof to enhance structural stability and improve thermal insulation performance. Below are its core functions, importance, and installation steps:

I. Ridge-Raising Methods and Structural Characteristics Raising the ridge on container house roofs is mainly achieved through two methods:

  1. Triangular Steel Frame Structure: This involves welding steel into a triangular frame, which is then directly fixed to the center of the roof. This structure offers high strength and is suitable for areas with strong winds or frequent earthquakes, effectively dispersing roof stress and preventing deformation.
  2. Corrugated Metal Sheeting: This method uses metal sheets with a corrugated pattern to cover the central area of the roof. Its advantages include a more aesthetically pleasing appearance and increased structural rigidity due to the corrugated design, which also reduces rainwater accumulation and the risk of leakage.

II. Importance of Ridge Raising

  1. Enhancing Structural Stability: The ridge is a core support component of the roof, playing a significant role, especially in extreme weather conditions. Container houses without a raised ridge are prone to deformation or overturning due to uneven roof stress in strong winds, whereas a ridge-raising structure can disperse wind pressure or seismic forces, increasing the safety factor by more than 30%.
  2. Optimizing Thermal Insulation Performance: The steel roof of a container house has high thermal conductivity, causing the indoor temperature to be more than 10℃ higher than the outdoor temperature in summer. Through ridge-raising design, an insulation layer (such as mineral wool board or polystyrene board) can be laid beneath the ridge beam or ridge plate, forming an air insulation layer that effectively blocks heat conduction, reducing indoor temperature fluctuations, and improving living comfort.

III. Installation Steps and Precautions

  1. Locating the Central Point: Use a laser level or string method to determine the geometric center of the roof and mark the installation position for the ridge. This step requires precision to avoid structural misalignment in subsequent steps.
  2. Fixing the Ridge Beam/Plate:
    • For a steel frame structure, pre-weld the connecting pieces and fix them to the roof purlins using high-strength bolts, with a bolt spacing of no more than 50 cm. Ensure that the sealant is filled tightly to prevent rainwater penetration.
    • For metal sheeting, lay it from one end of the roof towards the center, fixing overlapping sections with rivets, with an overlap width of no less than 10 cm, and apply waterproof sealant.
  3. Laying the Insulation Layer: Cover the ridge beam or ridge plate with insulation material, with a recommended thickness of 5-10 cm. The material should have fire-resistant and moisture-proof properties and fit tightly against the roof structure to avoid air pockets that could reduce insulation effectiveness.

Through scientific ridge-raising design, container houses can balance safety and functionality, extending their service life and reducing energy consumption, making it an indispensable key link in modular construction.
