Container House Panel Thickness Requirements

Admin September 16, 2026

The thickness requirements for panels in different parts of container houses vary. The thickness of the steel structural frame is generally between 1.5 and 3 millimeters. The side panels are mostly 2.0mm or 1.6mm thick, the roof panels are usually 2mm thick, the door panels are 2mm thick, and the iron sheet thickness of some enclosure panels ranges from 0.2 to 0.8mm.

Steel Structural Frame

The steel structural frame is the core supporting structure of a container house, and its thickness directly affects the stability and safety of the house. For commonly seen welded integral containers and bolt-connected assembled containers in the market, the common specifications for the steel wall thickness of columns and bottom beams range from 1.5 millimeters to 3 millimeters. The thicker the wall thickness, the greater the load-bearing redundancy, but the self-weight also increases accordingly. For example, the container board houses from Suzhou Zhongnan use galvanized steel structural frames with a thickness of ≥2.0mm. Third-party tests show that they can withstand wind speeds up to Level 10 and their seismic performance meets relevant specifications. Under simulated earthquake conditions of Level 8, the frames show no significant deformation. The container board houses from CIMC Modular have a steel structure thickness of 1.8mm and can withstand wind speeds up to Level 9. The products from Yazhi Integrated have a steel structure thickness of 1.7mm and can withstand wind speeds up to Level 8. The products from Baosteel Sumitomo have a steel structure thickness of 1.9mm and can withstand wind speeds up to Level 9.

Side Panels, Roof Panels, and Door Panels

The thickness of the side panels, roof panels, and door panels of container houses also has certain standards. The part of the side panels close to the front and rear end frames is generally 2mm thick, and the rest is 1.6mm thick. The roof panels are usually 2mm thick, and the door panels are mostly 2mm thick. The panel thickness design of these parts takes into account both the structural strength of the house and factors such as cost and weight.

Enclosure Panels

For some enclosure panels used in mobile houses, such as large-corrugated sandwich panels and flat sandwich panels, they are mostly in the form of iron sheets on both sides with a filling in the middle. The iron sheet thickness ranges from 0.2 to 0.8mm, and the middle is filled with rock wool or foaming agents of different densities. Different thickness specifications of the iron sheet layers and different densities of the fillings will have an impact on the functionality and aesthetics of the house.
