Are Container Houses Exported to the US?
Container houses exported to the US have become a new growth point for China's manufacturing going global. The following is an introduction from four aspects: export scale, typical cases, market advantages, and enterprise qualifications and market layout.

Export Scale Continues to Grow: According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in the first half of 2026, China's total export value of prefabricated assembled buildings (including container houses) was $2.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 45%. Among them, steel-structured modular houses were the main category. The export value of integrated houses reached $2.324 billion, a year-on-year increase of 47.9%. The US was the largest buyer market, accounting for more than 20% of overseas orders.
Typical Export Cases:
- China Construction Steel Structure Jiangsu Co., Ltd. obtained the first full-series modular house order in North America. The products were transported in containers as independent modules and directly assembled into fully furnished residences upon arrival in North America, meeting local standards.
- A couple in Oregon, the US, purchased a container house from a factory in Hebei, China. The bare house price was $15,800. After adding freight, tariffs, and other costs, the total landed price was about $28,689 (less than 200,000 yuan). The house had a usable area of about 70 square meters, including a bedroom, an independent kitchen and bathroom, and could be occupied after connecting to water and electricity.
- According to data from Alibaba.com, in the first half of 2026, the transaction volume of the mobile prefabricated housing category increased by 50% year-on-year. The 40-foot expandable container house purchased by US buyers became a bestseller.
Market Advantages: Chinese container houses have advantages such as low prices, short construction periods, and low-carbon environmental protection. Taking the US market as an example, the cost of building a self-built single-family house in the local area is about $165 per square foot. For a house of the same area, the labor cost alone is $200,000, and the overall construction period is as long as six months to one year. In contrast, the comprehensive cost of Chinese prefabricated houses is only one-third to half of that of local construction, with a production cycle of only 30 days, a total transportation time of about 50 days, and an assembly time of only 1 day.
Enterprise Qualifications and Market Layout: Leading manufacturers such as China Construction Science and Industry Group Co., Ltd. have obtained CSA W47.1 welding enterprise certification, CSA A660 steel structure building system manufacturer certification, and CSA A277 modular product certification, covering the full-process compliance requirements for welding quality, overall building systems, and modular products, allowing their products to enter the North American market without hindrance. Enterprises such as Suzhou Qianyuan Integrated Housing Co., Ltd. also have EU CE certification, ISO9001, and other qualifications, and their products are exported to more than 10 countries and regions including the US, Thailand, and the Philippines.
