Container House for Home Use
Admin September 15, 2026
Container houses can be used for home purposes, but there are multiple aspects to pay attention to during the purchase, installation, and use processes:

Purchase Stage
- Structural Type: There are commonly two types: welded integral containers and bolt-connected assembled containers. Welded integral containers are welded into shape as a whole in the factory, with a direct force path and strong resistance to deformation, suitable for frequent lifting and moving. Assembled containers use standard plates connected by bolts. When purchasing, check the wall thickness of the steel columns and bottom beams. Common specifications range from 1.5 mm to 3 mm. The thicker the wall thickness, the greater the load-bearing redundancy, but the self-weight also increases accordingly.
- Coating Process: In areas with large temperature differences between day and night and significant humidity changes, the quality of the coating determines the rusting speed of the container body. Hot-dip galvanizing treatment has a longer anti-corrosion lifespan than cold-dip galvanizing, so hot-dip galvanized coated container houses should be preferred.
Installation Stage
- Ground Treatment: Provide a uniform load-bearing foundation for the container house. After removing the loose soil and debris on the ground, compact the original soil layer. For long-term fixed use, pour a concrete strip foundation. The recommended width is 30 cm to 50 cm, and the depth is determined according to the thickness of the local frozen soil layer. The horizontal height difference of the foundation top surface should not exceed 5 mm. For short-term use, pre-fabricated concrete pads or steel plates can be used. The spacing between the pads should not exceed 2 m, and a crushed stone leveling layer should be laid under each pad.
- Lifting and Positioning: There are usually four or six lifting points at the bottom of the container house. When lifting, use steel wire ropes with sufficient load-bearing capacity to ensure that all lifting points are under synchronous force and avoid unilateral force causing the container body to twist. After the container body is in place, check the fit between the bottom beam and the foundation pad. If there is local suspension, pad it with thin steel sheets and use a level to detect along the longitudinal and transverse directions of the bottom beam respectively. The levelness error should be controlled within 2 mm per meter.
Use Stage
- Internal Renovation: The interior of the container can be reasonably planned and renovated according to needs, such as setting up functional areas and installing furniture. However, be careful not to damage the structural safety of the container and at the same time take good waterproof, fireproof, and thermal insulation measures.
