Dampness on the Floor of Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The dampness on the floor of container houses can be addressed through a combination of measures including ventilation and dehumidification, physical adsorption, chemical dehumidification, equipment assistance, leak repair, and material selection and structural optimization.

1. Ventilation and Dehumidification

If the air circulation in container houses is poor, moisture tends to accumulate, leading to damp floors. It is necessary to open doors and windows to promote air convection. In humid weather, use fans to accelerate air flow. For basements, install exhaust systems. For enclosed spaces such as wardrobes and cabinets, maintain ventilation for more than 2 hours a day to prevent moisture retention.

2. Physical Adsorption

Moisture-adsorbing materials can quickly absorb surface moisture. For example, laying activated carbon bags (3 - 5 bags per square meter, replaced every 48 hours), diatomaceous earth mats (with a water absorption rate of up to 300%, suitable for laying under tatami mats or wooden floors), and quicklime (place 1 kilogram in a container per 10 square meters, avoiding direct skin contact) can effectively reduce floor humidity.

3. Chemical Dehumidification

In cases of severe dampness, dehumidifying agents such as calcium chloride should be used. For example, granular dehumidifying boxes are suitable for spaces of 20 square meters and should be replaced twice a month. Dehumidifying sprays can directly treat tile gaps. After spraying, let it sit for 15 minutes and then wipe. Before applying moisture-proof coatings, clean the base surface. Epoxy resin-based coatings can provide moisture-proof effects for up to 3 years.

4. Equipment Assistance

Electrical dehumidification is suitable for continuously humid environments. For example, choose dehumidifiers with a daily dehumidification capacity of over 12 liters and place them 30 centimeters away from the wall. Setting the air conditioner's dehumidification mode below 24℃ yields better results. Underfloor heating systems can keep the floor temperature above the dew point to prevent condensation.

5. Leak Repair

Structural leaks require thorough repair. For example, check for water drips at water pipe connections and use waterproof tape for temporary repairs. Fill exterior wall cracks with polyurethane foam and then apply waterproof coatings. If the basement waterproof layer fails, excavate and redo it with asphalt waterproof membranes, with a construction period of about 7 days.

6. Material Selection and Structural Optimization

Choose coatings with good moisture-proof properties, such as those with anti-mold growth, high efficiency in preventing water ingress, and corrosion resistance that is not easy to peel off, to solve the dampness problem from the source. In addition, build a foundation with bricks and stones at the bottom of the container to prevent the steel container from directly contacting the moist soil and reduce the risk of bottom erosion.
