Container House Flashing Trough

Admin September 15, 2026

The flashing trough of a container house is a crucial structure for guiding rainwater drainage and preventing leakage. It is typically installed at the edge of the roof and directs rainwater into underground or drainage pipes through an internal drainage system.

Function and Design of the Flashing Trough

The roof flashing trough of a container house is the core part of the drainage system, and its design directly affects the house's waterproofing performance. High-quality container houses adopt an internal drainage structure, where a drainage trough (flashing trough) is installed around the perimeter of the roof. Rainwater is then directed into underground or drainage pipes through downspouts inside the columns. This design prevents rainwater from dripping directly from the roof edge, reducing the risk of leakage and maintaining the neat appearance of the house.

Key Waterproofing Techniques

The waterproofing performance of a container house depends on the materials and construction techniques used. The roof materials usually consist of multiple layers, including iron sheets, glass wool, moisture-proof membranes, and ceiling tiles. The joints at both ends of the iron sheet layer must be sealed with structural adhesive. If the sealing is not tight, rainwater may leak through the gaps. The quality of the moisture-proof membrane's adhesion is also crucial. If it is not properly adhered or damaged, moisture may penetrate, affecting the house's moisture-proof performance. Additionally, the bending treatment of the roof and the aging of the waterproof gaskets on the fasteners may also cause leakage, requiring regular inspection and maintenance.

Common Causes of Leakage and Solutions

  1. Construction Issues: Poor application of structural adhesive or improper adhesion of the moisture-proof membrane are the main causes of leakage. The solution is to choose high-quality materials, ensure construction techniques meet standards, and regularly inspect the sealing conditions.
  2. Material Aging: Exposed to the outdoor environment for a long time, waterproof materials may age and lose effectiveness. Aging components such as waterproof gaskets and structural adhesive need to be replaced regularly.
  3. Design Flaws: If the gutter has no slope horizontally or the outlet design is unreasonable, it may lead to water accumulation and leakage. The drainage design needs to be optimized to ensure the gutter has sufficient slope and the outlet is unobstructed.

Maintenance Recommendations

To ensure the waterproofing performance of a container house, it is recommended to regularly inspect the roof flashing trough and drainage system, clear blockages, and replace aging components. Additionally, avoid stepping on the roof or installing heavy objects to prevent damage to the waterproofing structure.
