Exterior Wall Insulation Board for Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

The exterior wall insulation board for container houses is a composite material specifically designed for container buildings. Its core functions are to enhance thermal insulation, fire resistance, and waterproof performance, while also meeting the requirements of lightweight and rapid installation. It has a wide range of application scenarios, including temporary buildings (construction site dormitories, mobile offices), cold chain logistics, homestays, and commercial space renovations. The following provides an in-depth explanation from four aspects: material characteristics, key points for selection, recommended products, and construction suggestions:

I. Comparison of Common Core Material Characteristics

  1. Polyurethane Insulation Board: It has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.024W/(m·K), excellent fire resistance (above B1 level), and high compressive strength. It is suitable for cold chain containers or scenarios with strict thermal insulation requirements.
  2. Rock Wool Board: It is an A-grade fireproof material, resistant to high temperatures (up to over 1000℃). However, it has a relatively high density (about 120 - 200kg/m³) and requires additional waterproof treatment. It is suitable for environments with extremely high temperature or fire resistance requirements.
  3. XPS/EPS Boards: XPS boards have a density of about 25 - 35kg/m³, and EPS boards have a density of about 15 - 20kg/m³. Both have the advantages of being lightweight and low-cost. However, their fire resistance ratings are relatively low (usually B1 level), and they need to be used in combination with fireproof coatings or isolation strips. They are suitable for projects with limited budgets and general fire resistance requirements.
  4. Phenolic Board: Its fire resistance is close to A-grade, and it has a low smoke density. However, its weather resistance is poor, and it is prone to pulverization after long-term exposure. It is mostly used for indoor partitions or temporary buildings.

II. Key Points for Selection

  1. Fire Resistance Rating: Give priority to A-grade materials (such as rock wool and vacuum panels). If B1-grade materials (such as XPS/EPS) are used, ensure that they have passed the detection of GB8624 - 2012 'Classification of Burning Behavior of Building Materials and Products' and are equipped with fireproof isolation strips.
  2. Thickness and Density: In cold regions, it is recommended that the thickness be ≥50mm, and the density should be adjusted according to the type of core material (for example, the density of polyurethane boards should be ≥35kg/m³). In humid environments, closed-cell structural materials (such as XPS boards) should be selected to reduce water absorption.
  3. Installation Method: The dry-hanging method (such as metal carved panels) is suitable for scenarios with high requirements for exterior facade decoration, and an air layer needs to be reserved to enhance thermal insulation. The adhesive method (such as XPS boards) is simple in construction, but it is necessary to ensure that the flatness of the base layer is ≤3mm/m.

III. Examples of Recommended Products

  1. Shandong Ourunte Polyurethane Sandwich Insulation Board: Its core material is high-density polyurethane foam, with a thermal conductivity of 0.024W/(m·K) and a compressive strength of ≥150kPa. It is suitable for cold chain containers and low-temperature warehousing.
  2. Tianjin Jinchuangxinsheng Ceramic Insulation Integrated Board: Its outer layer is a ceramic thin plate, and its inner layer is rock wool or polyurethane. It combines decorative properties with A-grade fire resistance and is suitable for commercial space renovations.
  3. Langfang Huazan STP Vacuum Insulation Board: Its thermal conductivity is only 0.008W/(m·K), and its thickness can be compressed to 10 - 30mm. It is suitable for ultra-thin design requirements (such as mobile medical vehicles).

IV. Key Construction Suggestions

  1. Base Layer Treatment: Remove rust and oil stains from the surface of the container, apply anti-rust paint, and then lay waterproof membranes to ensure that the flatness error is ≤5mm.
  2. Joint Sealing: Use neutral silicone weather-resistant sealant to fill the board joints, with a width of ≥10mm and a depth of half of the joint width to prevent rainwater penetration.
  3. Fireproof Isolation Strip: Lay a 50mm-wide rock wool strip horizontally between every two layers of insulation boards and fix it firmly to the wall to block the spread of flames.
