Container House Exports to Qatar
During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, China exported more than $1,389 sets of container houses to Qatar, mainly to meet temporary accommodation needs during the event. The following covers export scale, functional features, participating companies, and uses:

I. Export scale and functional features Container houses exported from China offer full living functions, covering doors and windows, utilities, bathrooms, and other infrastructure. Some units were fully assembled in domestic factories and shipped as wholes to Qatar for rapid deployment and use. This “modular + preassembled” model significantly shortened on-site construction while ensuring quality and living comfort. For example, Zhejiang Putian Integrated Housing Co., Ltd. supplied more than 5,000 integrated houses, and Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. provided custom quick-assemble box houses—both showcasing standardized design and flexible combination for different scene needs.
II. Participating companies and product types Multiple Chinese firms took deep part in this export business and formed a differentiated competitive landscape:
- Zhejiang Putian Integrated Housing Co., Ltd.: Supplied more than 5,000 integrated houses for the Qatar World Cup Fan Village, with scaled production and fast delivery as core strengths to meet large-scale lodging demand.
- Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd.: Launched World Cup custom container houses and quick-assemble box houses, priced from $681/set, focusing on value and customization for fan villages, staff dormitories, and similar scenes. Through supply-chain optimization and technical innovation, these firms controlled the full chain from design and production to transport and offered a China solution for major international events.
III. Main uses and market value Exported container houses mainly served two scenes:
- Athlete and coach apartments: Provided independent, safe living space with essential facilities to support efficient operations during the event.
- Fan accommodation: Temporary communities were built in fan villages and similar areas to ease lodging pressure during the event, while modular design enabled fast post-event dismantling or reuse and reduced waste. This export not only showed China’s manufacturing strength in modular buildings but also offered a replicable “China model” for temporary lodging at global mega-events and advanced the international spread of green building ideas.
