Construction Site Portable Toilet
A simple portable toilet for construction sites can be homemade using materials such as water storage tanks and pallets. The core steps include constructing the base frame, modifying the water storage tank, installing facilities, and perfecting the details. Here are the specific production processes and key points:

1. Base Frame Construction
Select a high-strength pallet (such as wooden or metal) as the bottom support structure to ensure the load-bearing capacity meets usage requirements. Fix caster wheels at the four corners of the pallet, choosing industrial-grade wheels with brakes to ensure flexible movement and stable parking. The pallet size should be adjusted according to the specifications of the water storage tank, typically recommended to be slightly larger (10-15cm) in length and width than the tank to reserve installation space.
2. Water Storage Tank Modification
Choose a double-layer plastic water storage tank (recommended capacity of 200-300L), with the upper tank serving as a sewage collection pool and the lower tank as a clean water storage pool. Modify the upper tank by cutting:
- A circular opening with a diameter of 30-40cm at the top as the toilet drain, with edges polished smooth to prevent scratches;
- A rectangular observation window (approximately 15×20cm in size) on the sidewall, 20cm from the bottom, for checking the sewage level;
- The lower tank remains intact, with only an inlet (5cm in diameter) and an overflow port (3cm in diameter) cut at the top, connected to the inlet pipe and overflow pipe respectively.
3. Facility Installation
- Toilet System: Choose a lightweight plastic toilet, fix it at the opening of the upper tank, and seal the bottom with the drain to prevent leakage;
- Handwashing Device: Install a mini water pump (power ≤ 50W) on the sidewall of the lower tank, connecting it to a rotatable faucet and a small handwashing basin, with the basin's drain pipe directly connected to the upper tank;
- Shower System: Lead a hose shower from the inlet of the clean water tank for simple rinsing, with a recommended hose length of 1.5-2m and a water-saving showerhead at the end.
4. Detail Perfection
- Door Installation: Use a lightweight aluminum alloy frame + PVC board to make the door, fix it to the edge of the pallet with hinges, and choose a simple bolt-type door lock;
- Ventilation Design: Open a ventilation hole with a diameter of 10cm at the top of the tank, install a rain cap and an activated carbon filter to reduce odors;
- Safety Protection: Wrap all cutting edges with waterproof tape, install a leakage protector for the electrical circuit, and spray anti-rust paint on the exterior of the tank.
Precautions:
- Measure the site dimensions before production to ensure the height of the portable toilet does not exceed 2.2m (including wheels) for easy passage through standard doorways;
- The clean water tank needs regular replenishment, and the sewage tank should be emptied promptly when it reaches 80% capacity;
- In winter, wrap insulation cotton around the exterior of the tank to prevent water pipes from freezing and cracking.
