China Mobile Restroom Water Incidents

Admin October 22, 2026

China Mobile outlets have been exposed to incidents involving restroom water, though some of these incidents are controversial.

I. Security Guard's Report in Jinhua, Zhejiang On March 20, 2020, a security guard at a China Mobile outlet in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, reported that the outlet was filling bottled water with restroom water for customers to drink. According to his description, these bottled waters had turned green and smelled bad due to long-term filling with restroom water, and some children even experienced symptoms such as diarrhea after drinking them. The incident attracted widespread social attention, and the police immediately launched an investigation. However, China Mobile subsequently issued an investigation report, stating that the security guard's claims were unfounded, that the source of the bottled water was normal, and that the security guard involved would face accountability. The core controversy of this incident lies in the contradictory statements from both parties regarding the source of the bottled water, ultimately concluding with the official investigation results denying the report's content.

II. Direct Restroom Water Incident at an Outlet in Another City In another incident, a staff member at a China Mobile outlet in another city directly provided water from a restroom faucet to a customer who requested drinking water. This behavior was discovered and photographed by another customer and quickly sparked widespread public discussion online. Unlike the Jinhua incident, the core issue here is the direct use of restroom water sources by staff, rather than filling bottled water, making the nature of the behavior more direct and less controversial. Although no official follow-up investigation results have been disclosed, such behavior clearly violates basic hygiene standards and poses a potential threat to customer health.

III. Reflection on the Incidents and Industry Standards Although the nature of the above incidents differs, they both expose hygiene management loopholes in customer service at some outlets. Enterprises need to strengthen employee training, clarify drinking water supply standards, and avoid damaging their brand image due to individual behaviors; Regulatory authorities should increase the frequency of spot checks on hygiene and safety in public places to ensure that service venues meet basic hygiene requirements; Consumers can retain evidence and file complaints with relevant departments to safeguard their rights when encountering similar situations. These incidents also remind the public to pay attention to water source safety when receiving services in public places and, if necessary, actively inquire or request to see proof of the drinking water source.
