Channel Steel for Container House Skeleton

Admin September 16, 2026

The channel steel for the skeleton of container houses usually adopts the 5X10 specification. It is mainly used for welding the main crossbeams around the upper and lower bases of the container, playing a supporting role similar to that of the ring beam of a house and being one of the core materials for the structural safety of the house.

Specification and Function of Channel Steel

The specification of the channel steel is 5X10, which means a section height of 5 centimeters and a flange width of 10 centimeters. This specification of channel steel has high flexural strength and stiffness, enabling it to withstand the vertical and horizontal loads generated during the transportation, assembly, and use of container houses. Its core function is to serve as the main crossbeam of the house, connecting the upper and lower base plates to form a stable frame structure and ensuring the overall stability of the house.

Synergistic Effect of Channel Steel and Columns

Channel steel and columns together form the skeleton system of container houses. The thickness of the columns is usually not less than 1 millimeter and needs to be formed by pressing with professional equipment. There are ready-made products available on the market. Channel steel and columns are connected by welding or bolts to form a three-dimensional support system, which plays a decisive role in the sturdiness of the house. For example, in the Erdos Hanjiang Packing Box Container House, the combination of channel steel and columns gives the house wind resistance, earthquake resistance, and deformation resistance, with a service life of more than 10 years.

Material Selection and Process Requirements for Channel Steel

Channel steel generally uses Q235 carbon structural steel, which has good weldability, plasticity, and toughness, meeting the requirements of container houses for strength and durability. During the welding process, full-penetration welding is required to ensure that there are no gaps at the connections and to avoid structural failure caused by stress concentration. In addition, the surface of the channel steel needs to be anti-corrosively treated, such as by spraying epoxy zinc-rich primer and topcoat, to extend its service life.

Extended Applications of Channel Steel in Container Houses

In addition to the main crossbeams, channel steel can also be used for welding the base frames, door and window lintels, and other parts of container houses. For example, in industrial equipment container houses, channel steel and steel plates are combined to form an integral welded structure, and the thickness and load-bearing capacity can be customized according to customer needs to meet the requirements of different scenarios.
